Graphene oxide sheets (GO) were coupled with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to enhance the photoactivity of anatase under visible and solar irradiation. The carbon nanotube surface was functionalized in the acidic reflux condition before coupling with GO and decoration of anatase by the sol-gel method. A modified kinetic model was appropriately applied to predict the breakthrough in the methylene blue degradation yield and determine the constant rate which was clearly affected by coupling architecture.

Staphylococcus aureus colonizes patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and exacerbates disease by promoting inflammation. The present study investigated the safety and mechanisms of action of Staphylococcus hominis A9 (ShA9), a bacterium isolated from healthy human skin, as a topical therapy for AD. ShA9 killed S.

Introduction: Protein kinase C theta (PKCθ) is expressed in ER-negative breast cancer and promotes cancer stem cells (CSCs) phenotype. PKCθ gene (PRKCQ) is predicted to be a target for tumor suppressor miR-203. Herein, we aim to validate this prediction and evaluate the ability of miR-203 to inhibit migration of breast cancer cell line enriched with CSCs, MDA-MB-231, via PRKCQ targeting.

Microbial infections are considered common and dangerous for humans among other infections; therefore the synthesis of high efficacy antimicrobial and anti-biofilm composites is continuous to fight microbial resistance. In our study, a new and novel tertiary composite (TC) was synthesized, it composed of TEMPO cellulose (TOC), chitosan, starch, and myco-synthesized Se-NPs. Myco-synthesized Se-NPs and TC were fully characterized using UV, FT-IR, XRD, SEM with EDX, particle distribution, and mapping.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of on-admission plasma levels of BNP, MR-proADM, and cTnI in diagnosing the clinical severity and progression of heart failure (HF) in children with CHD. Also, to correlate the levels of these biomarkers with the HF outcome (survival versus in-hospital mortality).

Results: A prospective cohort study conducted in period from January 2017 to March 2018.

Background: Different therapeutic modalities have been tried for hypertrophic scar treatment. To our knowledge, intense pulsed light (IPL) has not been previously evaluated in comparison with cryotherapy as a stand-alone treatment for hypertrophic scars.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of IPL as a monotherapy for hypertrophic scar treatment as compared with cryotherapy both clinically and histopathologically.

The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly shown the importance of developments in fabrication of advanced protective equipment. This study investigates the potential of using multifunctional electrospun poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanofibers decorated with ZnO nanorods and Ag nanoparticles (PMMA/ZnO-Ag NFs) in protective mats. Herein, the PMMA/ZnO-Ag NFs with an average diameter of 450 nm were simply prepared on a nonwoven fabric by directly electrospinning from solutions containing PMMA, ZnO nanorods, and Ag nanoparticles.

Water is essential to human societies and a prerequisite for flourishing nature, especially in arid regions. Yet, climate change and socio-economic developments are expected to exacerbate current and future stresses on water resources, demanding innovative approaches to balance water needs for society and nature conservation. In this study, we use the IPBES conceptual framework to combine ecological and socio-economic insights and analyse the connections between people and nature in the water scarce Draa River Basin, southern Morocco.

Effects of amount of anechoic intrauterine fluid (IUF) and size of largest follicle at insemination on proportion of cows pregnant as a result of AI (P/AI percentage), as well as factors associated with amount of IUF and size of the follicle were investigated. Follicle size was determined, and amount of IUF in the largest uterine segment was categorized as containing no fluid, ≤10, >10-20, and >20 mm using the ultrasonic monitor grid in 735 cows at time of insemination. Multivariable regression models were constructed to evaluate effects of different variables on P/AI percentage, and variables associated with the IUF score and follicle size.

Purpose: Altered miRNAs play a crucial role in the emergence of the breast cancer stem cell (BCSC) phenotype. The interplay between miRNAs and methylation enzymes has been documented. One of the most aggressive breast cancer cell lines, MDA-MB-231, has expressed much more DNMT3B than DNMT3A.

Legacy data show that ∼40% of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) were cured with limited antimetabolite-based chemotherapy regimens. However, identifying patients with very-low-risk (VLR) ALL remains imprecise. Patients selected based on a combination of presenting features and a minimal residual disease (MRD) level <0.

Aim: The change in the levels of peripheral inflammatory markers together with EGFR in relation to 5- fluorouracil (5-FU) therapy was evaluated for their prognostic significance in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients.

Patients And Methods: Expression levels of COX2, IL6, IL1β, EGFR, IL10, and TNFα were determined with quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) in the peripheral blood of 90 CRC patients. The inflammatory response was correlated with patients' clinical features, disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS).

Surgical methods are favorably used for treatment of stable vitiligo, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be added to augment the effect. The additive value of PRP, however, remains elusive. Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) is released from activated platelets with a capacity for stimulating melanocyte proliferation and migration.

Objective: To assess the efficacy of first-trimester three-dimensional (3D) placental volume as well as 3D power Doppler of placental vascular indices for early prediction of pre-eclampsia.

Methods: The prospective cohort study included over 2019 women with a singleton pregnancy in their first trimester at 11-13+ weeks of pregnancy. All women were examined by 3D abdominal ultrasound, including Doppler techniques for the placental volume and placental vascular indices.

Introduction: Three strains of the FMD virus (A, O, and SAT 2) were recognised as causes of the FMD circulating in Egypt. The aims of this study were to trace the FMDV isolates from outbreaks in Egypt to understand their epidemiology and evolution and to understand the situation of the vaccine strains compared with the circulating serotypes.

Material And Methods: A meta-analysis was carried out by using the data available for FMD outbreaks in Egypt from GenBank and the World Reference Laboratory for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (WRLFMD); a comparison was done with both data sets for the three serotypes.

Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder characterized by severe motor, cognitive and psychiatric impairments. While motor deficits often confirm diagnosis, cognitive dysfunctions usually manifest early in the disease process and are consistently ranked among the leading factors that impact the patients' quality of life. The genetic component of HD, a mutation in the huntingtin ( gene, is traditionally presented as the main contributor to disease pathology.

The year 2020 has been noted to be one of major calamity the world over, in which the majority of efforts in research and development have been dedicated towards combating the threat of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Ever since the announcement of COVID-19 as a pandemic, such efforts were dedicated towards the research of its spread and vaccination. Yet still, the world might reach a resolution via an environmental solution that various entities have overlooked, with a plethora of environmental benefits vis-à-vis waste management.
