Liver fibrosis is one of the most serious conditions affecting patients worldwide. In the present study, the role of nitric oxide and KATP channel was investigated for the first time in the possible protection mediated by nicorandil in bile duct ligation-induced liver fibrosis in rats. Nicorandil (3 mg/kg/day) was given orally 24 h after bile duct ligation for 14 days till the end of the experiment.

Type I diabetes (TID) is generally assumed to be caused by an immune associated, if not directly immune-mediated, destruction of pancreatic β-cells. In patients with long-term diabetes, the pancreas lacks insulin-producing cells and the residual β-cells are unable to regenerate. Patients with TID are subjected to a lifelong insulin therapy which shows risks of hypoglycemia, suboptimal control and ketosis.

Tamoxifen citrate (TXC) is commonly indicated to prevent cell multiplication and development of breast cancer. However, it is usually associated with limited activity and development of toxicity and resistance. This study aimed to describe an in situ pH-responsive niosomes as a carrier for localized and sustained delivery of TXC.

Introduction: Inherited ABO blood groups have been shown to play possible contributions in the pathogenesis of various gynecologic and non-gynecologic carcinomas. With regard to gynecologic carcinomas, there is a confined number of studies that explored the relationship between ABO blood group and endometrial carcinoma (EC) in the PubMed-indexed literature. To the best of our knowledge, no such study has ever been conducted in Saudi Arabia.

Background: As assisted reproductive therapies (ART) become more common in Tunisia, it was relevant to define the associated perinatal risks. The risk of multiple births and its correlate after ART were well admitted. We aimed to disclose whether ART were associated with increased perinatal risks in singletons and twins from ART comparatively with spontaneous conception.

Twenty-eight Barbarine male lambs were used to investigate the effect of dietary Nigella sativa seeds (NSS) on meat fatty acids and oxidative stability in two different feeding systems (high- or low-concentrate). Dietary treatments were planned to offer: 70% barley hay and 30% concentrate (LC); LC+12g/day of NSS (LCN); 30% barley hay and 70% concentrate (HC); HC+12g/day of NSS (HCN). NSS increased intramuscular fat only in the low-concentrate system (P=0.

Diabetic Nephropathy (DN) is one of the main complications associated with diabetes mellitus. Persistently elevated blood glucose level drives histopathological changes in renal tissues that hinder normal kidney functions. In the current study, crocin; the main bioactive constituent of Crocus sativus was investigated as a reno-protective agent against DN by virtue of its numerous pharmacological activities.

Irisin is a novel secreted myokine, encoded by the fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5) precursor gene. Irisin plays a role in the female reproductive system in pregnancy and in embryonic development, and is associated with fetal size. It is expressed in the ovary, placenta and neonatal cord serum.

Objective: To test a computer-led follow-up service for prostate cancer in two UK hospitals; the testing aimed to validate the computer expert system in making clinical decisions according to the individual patient's clinical need with a valid model accurately identify patients with disease recurrence or treatment failure based on their blood test and clinical picture.

Patients And Methods: A clinical-decision support system (CDSS) was developed from European (European Association of Urology) and national (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines along with knowledge acquired from Urologists. This model was then applied in two UK hospitals to review patients after prostate cancer treatment.

The aim of this work is to try to substitute some synthetic additives by a natural extract from red prickly pear (Opuntia stricta) which known by its richness on bioactive polysaccharides mainly consisting of galactose, rhamnose and galacturonic acid. This natural fruit has a high content of carbohydrates above 18.81% FM.

Inherited ADMATS13 or Upshaw-Schulman syndrome (USS) is caused by the deficiency of the Von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease. It is characterized by recurrent episodes of thrombocytopenia reversible by fresh frozen plasma (FFP) infusions, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, and microvascular thrombosis leading to ischemic damage of multiple organs with end stage renal failure, or neurological sequelae in the absence of appropriate treatment. The typically reported features of USS in neonates are severe jaundice with hyperbilirubinemia, thrombocytopenia and /or combs negative hemolytic anemia, and an increased creatinine.

Dual-purpose management of winter cereals for grazing and grain production provides highly nutritive forage for ruminants in the spring and may positively affect straw feeding value. A 2-yr study investigated the effect of spring defoliation of triticale, wheat, and rye at the tillering and stem elongation stages on total biomass, grain yields, and straw quality. Furthermore, straws of spring-defoliated and undefoliated (control) cereal crops were evaluated for nutritional value and voluntary intake as a means of assessing the efficiency of dual-purpose management systems from the winter feeding context as well.

A simple, selective and sensitive kinetic spectrophotometric method was described for estimation of four phenolic sympathomimetic drugs namely; terbutaline sulfate, fenoterol hydrobromide, isoxsuprine hydrochloride and etilefrine hydrochloride. This method is depended on the oxidation of the phenolic drugs with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent in presence of sodium carbonate. The rate of color development at 747-760nm was measured spectrophotometrically.

Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) are very potential formulations for topical delivery of antifungal drugs. Hence, the purpose of this research was to formulate the well-known antifungal agent Fluconazole (FLZ)-loaded SLNs topical gel to improve its efficiency for treatment of Pityriasis Versicolor (PV). FLZ-SLNs were prepared by modified high shear homogenization and ultrasonication method using different concentration of solid lipid (Compritol 888 ATO, Precirol ATO5) and surfactant (Cremophor RH40, Poloxamer 407).

Delirium can be conceptualized as an acute decline in cognitive function that typically lasts from hours to a few days. Prolonged delirium can also affect patients with multiple predisposing and/or precipitating factors. In clinical practice, prolonged delirium is often unrecognized, and can be misdiagnosed as other psychiatric disorders.

Pectin, an integral component of the plant cell wall, is a recalcitrant substrate against enzymatic challenges by most animals. In characterizing the source of a leaf beetle's (Cassida rubiginosa) pectin-degrading phenotype, we demonstrate its dependency on an extracellular bacterium housed in specialized organs connected to the foregut. Despite possessing the smallest genome (0.

Two simple and sensitive spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric methods for the determination of terbutaline sulfate, fenoterol hydrobromide, etilefrine hydrochloride, isoxsuprine hydrochloride, ethamsylate, doxycycline hyclate have been developed. Both methods were based on the oxidation of the cited drugs with cerium (IV) in acid medium. The spectrophotometric method was based on measurement of the absorbance difference (ΔA), which represents the excess cerium (IV), at 317nm for each drug.

The incidence rate of triple or more synchronous primary neoplasms of the female genital system is exceedingly uncommon. To the best of our knowledge, only 13 such cases have been reported in the PubMed-indexed English literature. Herein, we report a single case of triple synchronous primary neoplasms of the cervix, endometrium, and left ovary with three distinct histological patterns that were not reported previously.
