Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) is a nonatherosclerotic, noninflammatory vascular disorder predominantly affecting women aged 18 to 65 years. This case report highlights a 74-year-old female diagnosed with FMD incidentally during evaluation for deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Imaging revealed significant vascular anomalies, including a giant intracranial carotid aneurysm and a hypoplastic iliac vein with extensive collateral formation.

Nonketotic hyperglycaemia (NKH) is a metabolic disorder typically observed in individuals with inadequately managed or undiagnosed diabetes mellitus (DM). Seizures are a common clinical presentation in NKH, and they tend to respond better to glucose correction than anticonvulsant therapy. MRI scans may reveal both subcortical T2/fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging hypointensity and cortical changes, including cortical grey matter T2/FLAIR imaging hyperintensity and cortical or leptomeningeal enhancement, although cortical abnormalities are less frequently observed.

This paper reports the case of a spontaneous rupture of a non-scarring gravid uterus seen four days after vaginal delivery and provides an update on this rare pathology, which can be functionally and vitally life-threatening. Uterine rupture of a healthy gravid uterus can occur as a result of structural abnormalities of the uterine tissue framework or uterine parietal fragility due to pathological phenomena such as septic states. On admission, the clinical picture is generally that of an acute abdomen with a hypogastric origin, with or without hemodynamic instability and an altered general condition, depending on the presence of an underlying advanced uterine infection.

The European hare Lepus europaeus is an iconic but rapidly declining farmland specialist with recently confirmed populations in urban areas. However, their behavioral responses and adaptability to urbanization and life in human-dominated areas are fully unexplored. Here, using infrared cameras, we explored escape behavior (measured as the flight initiation distance) using 965 hare observations in urban and farmland areas in the Czech Republic and Austria (Central Europe) and its association with habitat type, distance to the city center, patch size, season, hare age and initial behavior.

Personalized cancer immunotherapies such as therapeutic vaccines and adoptive transfer of T cell receptor-transgenic T cells rely on the presentation of tumor-specific peptides by human leukocyte antigen class I molecules to cytotoxic T cells. Such neoepitopes can for example arise from somatic mutations and their identification is crucial for the rational design of new therapeutic interventions. Liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based immunopeptidomics is the only method to directly prove actual peptide presentation and we have developed a parameter optimization workflow to tune targeted assays for maximum detection sensitivity on a per peptide basis, termed optiPRM.

Most microbial life on Earth is found in localized microenvironments that collectively exert a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem health and influencing global biogeochemical cycles. In many habitats such as biofilms in aquatic systems, bacterial flocs in activated sludge, periphyton mats, or particles sinking in the ocean, these microenvironments experience sporadic or continuous flow. Depending on their microscale structure, pores and channels through the microenvironments permit localized flow that shifts the relative importance of diffusive and advective mass transport.

Microfluidic models are proving to be powerful systems to study fundamental processes in porous media, due to their ability to replicate topologically complex environments while allowing detailed, quantitative observations at the pore scale. Yet, while porous media such as living tissues, geological substrates, or industrial systems typically display a porosity that spans multiple scales, most microfluidic models to date are limited to a single porosity or a small range of pore sizes.
