Laryngeal Mask Airway in Neonatal Resuscitation: A Survey of the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies.

Introduction: Laryngeal mask airway (LMA) use in neonatal resuscitation is limited despite existing evidence and recommendations. This survey investigated the knowledge and experience of healthcare providers on the use of the LMA and explored barriers and solutions for implementation.

Methods: This online, cross-sectional survey on LMA in neonatal resuscitation involved healthcare professionals of the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS).

TIMELESS (TIM) in the fork protection complex acts as a scaffold of the replisome to prevent its uncoupling and ensure efficient DNA replication fork progression. Nevertheless, its underlying basis for coordinating leading and lagging strand synthesis to limit single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) exposure remains elusive. Here, we demonstrate that acute degradation of TIM at ongoing DNA replication forks induces the accumulation of ssDNA gaps stemming from defective Okazaki fragment (OF) processing.

A Survey of the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies on Neonatal Respiratory Care in Neonatal Intensive Care Units.

(1) Background: Our survey aimed to gather information on respiratory care in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in the European and Mediterranean region. (2) Methods: Cross-sectional electronic survey. An 89-item questionnaire focusing on the current modes, devices, and strategies employed in neonatal units in the domain of respiratory care was sent to directors/heads of 528 NICUs.

Ultrasound Guidance Superiority in Pediatric Sialorrhea Treatment With Intraglandular Botulinum Toxin Application: A Four-Year Retrospective Study.

Introduction The management of sialorrhea in children with multiple disabilities is extremely important not only for aesthetic/psychosocial reasons but also for functional and clinical ones. There are several recommended management methods with strong evidence of the effectiveness of intraglandular application of botulinum toxin A. Materials and methods In this four-year retrospective report, we compare two populations who received intraglandular type A botulinum toxin injections in the pediatric unit of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Department at a central hospital.

Lessons from West Virginia's Pandemic Response.

In this editorial discussion we describe our experience developing and implementing predictive models during the pandemic response in the state of West Virginia. We provide insights the on the importance of communication and the dynamic environment that exists that impacts predictive modeling in situations such as those that we faced. It is our hope that this work brings insight to those who may experience similar challenges while working in public health policy.

The persistence of organisms as biofilms and the increase in antimicrobial resistance has raised the need for alternative strategies. The study objective was to compare the ability of isolated bacteriophages to remove in vitro biofilms formed by isolated from the environment with those isolated from diabetic and non-diabetic wounds. were isolated from clinical and environmental sites, and antimicrobial susceptibility was tested.

Phylogenetic relationships, distribution, and conservation of Roosmalens' dwarf porcupine, Voss & da Silva, 2001 (Rodentia, Erethizontidae).

The New World porcupines of the genus comprise 16 species of arboreal nocturnal rodents. Some of these species are poorly known and have not been included in phylogenetic analyses. Based on recently collected specimens with associated tissue from the Brazilian Amazonia, we investigate the distribution and phylogenetic relationships of Roosmalens' dwarf porcupine, , using an integrative approach using mitochondrial gene sequences and morphological data from new specimens and localities.

The Adaptive Mechanisms and Checkpoint Responses to a Stressed DNA Replication Fork.

DNA replication is a tightly controlled process that ensures the faithful duplication of the genome. However, DNA damage arising from both endogenous and exogenous assaults gives rise to DNA replication stress associated with replication fork slowing or stalling. Therefore, protecting the stressed fork while prompting its recovery to complete DNA replication is critical for safeguarding genomic integrity and cell survival.

Variation in delivery room management of preterm infants across Europe: a survey of the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies.

The aim of the present study, endorsed by the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS) and the Italian Society of Neonatology (SIN), was to analyze the current delivery room (DR) stabilization practices in a large sample of European birth centers that care for preterm infants with gestational age (GA) < 33 weeks. Cross-sectional electronic survey was used in this study. A questionnaire focusing on the current DR practices for infants < 33 weeks' GA, divided in 6 neonatal resuscitation domains, was individually sent to the directors of European neonatal facilities, made available as a web-based link.

Obesity is a chronic disease resulting from multifactorial causes mainly related to lifestyle (sedentary lifestyle, inadequate eating habits) and to other conditions such as genetic, hereditary, psychological, cultural, and ethnic factors. The weight loss process is slow and complex, and involves lifestyle changes with an emphasis on nutritional therapy, physical activity practice, psychological interventions, and pharmacological or surgical treatment. Because the management of obesity is a long-term process, it is essential that the nutritional treatment contributes to the maintenance of the individual's global health.

[Evaluation of the implementation of the Care Network for People with Disabilities in the Brazilian Unified National Health System: a multiple case study].

The Care Network for People with Disabilities (RCPCD) was implemented in 2012 as a consequence of the actions of the Viver sem Limite (Living without Limits) plan and has been the research object of recent studies. However, no published studies address the degree of implementation of this network. This study aimed to evaluate the degree of implementation of the RCPCD in eight states in the five regions of Brazil.

The structure of DNA replication forks is preserved by TIMELESS (TIM) in the fork protection complex (FPC) to support seamless fork progression. While the scaffolding role of the FPC to couple the replisome activity is much appreciated, the detailed mechanism whereby inherent replication fork damage is sensed and counteracted during DNA replication remains largely elusive. Here, we implemented an auxin-based degron system that rapidly triggers inducible proteolysis of TIM as a source of endogenous DNA replication stress and replisome dysfunction to dissect the signaling events that unfold at stalled forks.

Computerized auscultation of lung sounds is gaining importance today with the availability of lung sounds and its potential in overcoming the limitations of traditional diagnosis methods for respiratory diseases. The publicly available ICBHI respiratory sounds database is severely imbalanced, making it difficult for a deep learning model to generalize and provide reliable results. This work aims to synthesize respiratory sounds of various categories using variants of Variational Autoencoders like Multilayer Perceptron VAE (MLP-VAE), Convolutional VAE (CVAE) Conditional VAE and compare the influence of augmenting the imbalanced dataset on the performance of various lung sound classification models.

The viability of this system has been linked with repetitive sequences located between sex and autosomal portions of the translocation. Herein, we investigate Oecomys auyantepui, using chromosome banding and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization with telomeric and Hylaeamys megacephalus whole-chromosome probes, and phylogenetic reconstruction using mtDNA and nuDNA sequences.

Objectives: Uremic toxins such as indoxyl sulfate (IS), p-cresyl sulfate (pCS), and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) produced by the gut microbiota are recognized as risk factors for many comorbidities, including cardiovascular diseases. Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have an accumulation of these toxins, and nutritional strategies have been proposed to mitigate gut dysbiosis and, consequently, reduce these toxins. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of resveratrol supplementation on the plasma levels of IS, pCS, and IAA in nondialyzed patients with CKD.

Persons with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic: guaranteeing fundamental rights and equity in care.

This is a scoping review of the PubMed, Scopus, BIREME, SciELO, and Web of Science databases, including publications from December 2019 to May 2020 with the objective of identifying and systematizing the literature on the status of persons with disabilities in the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic. The review aimed to search for original peer-reviewed articles published in indexed journals, in addition to the specialized gray literature. We reviewed 386 texts and included 33 articles and documents in the study.

Introductory biology undergraduate students' mixed ideas about genetic information flow.

The core concept of genetic information flow was identified in recent calls to improve undergraduate biology education. Previous work shows that students have difficulty differentiating between the three processes of the Central Dogma (CD; replication, transcription, and translation). We built upon this work by developing and applying an analytic coding rubric to 1050 student written responses to a three-question item about the CD.
