In this sense, we propose a hybrid method that combines the SIRD mathematical model, whose parameters are estimated via Bayesian inference with a seasonal ARIMA model. Our approach considers that notifications of both, infections and deaths are realizations of a time series process, so that components such as non-stationarity, trend, autocorrelation and/or stochastic seasonal patterns, among others, must be taken into account in the fitting of any mathematical model.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn this paper, we analyzed the association among trends in COVID-19 cases, climate, air quality, and mobility changes during the first and second waves of the pandemic in five major metropolitan counties in the United States: Maricopa in Arizona, Cook in Illinois, Los Angeles in California, Suffolk in Massachusetts, and New York County in New York. These areas represent a range of climate conditions, geographies, economies, and state-mandated social distancing restrictions. In the first wave of the pandemic, cases were correlated with humidity in Maricopa, and temperature in Maricopa and Los Angeles.

Reengineering the substrate specificity of BoNT/A's protease domain (LC/A) could expand its therapeutic applications; however, LC/A's extended substrate recognition (≈ 60 residues) challenges conventional approaches. We report a directed evolution method for retargeting LC/A and retaining its exquisite specificity.

Here, we report the draft genome sequence of sp. strain MMG025, isolated from the surface of giant kelp and assembled and analyzed by undergraduate students participating in a marine microbial genomics course. A genomic comparison suggests that MMG025 is a novel species, providing a resource for future microbiology and biotechnology investigations.

The aim of this study was to compare the effect of a BPL of 70 vs 120 cm, with a constant AL of 150 cm on long-term weight loss, remission of comorbidities, and supplementation needs after RYGB.
Patients And Methods: A prospective randomized study of morbidly obese patients undergoing RYGB was performed.
This study proposed the optimization of a laccase-mediator system to reduce pesticide levels (bentazone, carbofuran, diuron, clomazone, tebuconazole, and pyraclostrobin) on aqueous medium. Firstly, the mediator concentration of 1 mM was established (average removal of 36%). After that, seven redox-mediating compounds, namely, 2,20-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, and vanillin, were compared regarding their removal efficiency.

A wealth of experimental and theoretical data has provided a detailed picture of the complex role played by catalytic subunits. Case Report: The case is presented of a 51-year old male patient with a history of blunt trauma in the frontal region and a one-year history of vision loss, proptosis and paresis of the lateral rectus muscle of the right eye. A right ethmoid and bilateral sphenoid mucocele was diagnosed. Drainage was performed using an external and endoscopic approach with improvement in symptoms without recurrence at 10 months.

Methods: Trisomy 21 and normal control mid-trimester placental samples were subjected to quantitative rt PCR analysis of seven genes we had previously found to be differentially expressed in Trisomy 21 placentae. The localization and differential expression of PAPP-A2 in second trimester placentae from normal and Trisomy 21 pregnancies was determined by immunohistochemistry.
