Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive and multifactorial disease that is associated with aging. A number of changes occur in aged cartilage, such as increased oxidative stress, decreased markers of healthy cartilage, and alterations in the autophagy pathway. Propolis extracts contain a mixture of polyphenols and it has been proved that they have high antioxidant capacity and could regulate the autophagic pathway.

Methods: The first 120 cases of robot-assisted spine surgery at our institution were assessed. Patient variables included age, body mass index, and indication for surgery.
The aim was to evaluate the effect of different feed additives on intake, performance, and fecal consistency index (FCI) of dairy calves from 6-60 d of age and its residual effect 15 d after weaning. Fifty Holstein calves (38 ± 1.0 kg BW) were fed 5 L/d of milk plus starter feed until weaning, and corn silage and concentrate after weaning.

However, its major problems are side effects associated to toxicity. Considerable inter-individual differences have been reported for CDDP-induced toxicity due to genetic and epigenetic factors.

College men were recruited from February to April 2010. Pre- and posttest surveys were administered as part of a randomized controlled trial ( = 743).

Our objective was to evaluate fetal cardiovascular and mitochondrial biomarkers in HIV pregnancies.
Methods: Prospective cohort including 47 HIV-infected and 47 non HIV-infected pregnancies.
The purpose of this analysis was to examine the associated factors of self-reported HIV/STI co-infection among youth living in the slums of Kampala. The study sample consists of a cross-sectional survey. Participants comprised a convenience sample (N = 1134) of youth living on the streets or in the slums (age 12-18).

Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is considered as a treatment option in refractory cases of myasthenia gravis. A 56-year-old Colombian male presented with six months of progressive hoarseness and dysphagia, with a positive repetitive stimulation test suggestive of end plate neuromuscular disease.

We evaluated the impact of individualized SCPs on patient-reported outcomes among transplant survivors. Adult (≥18 years at transplant) survivors who were 1-5 years post transplantation, proficient in English, and without relapse or secondary cancers were eligible for this multicenter randomized trial.

A sample SCP was developed that included 2 documents: a treatment summary and preventive care recommendations that combined data on treatment exposures routinely submitted by HCT centers to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) with long-term follow-up guidelines. Focus groups were conducted by phone to characterize the critical patient-centered elements of the SCP.

Methods: We designed a prospective observational study involving women admitted for IOL. The main outcome was defined as cesarean delivery due to failed IOL or arrest of labor.
Background: Asthma is associated with an increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in adults, but the impact of asthma and atopic conditions on CVD risk in children is less well established. We hypothesized that children in the Childhood Origins of Asthma (COAST) Cohort with asthma and atopic conditions would have early carotid arterial injury.
Methods: The COAST study is a longitudinal birth cohort of children at increased risk of developing asthma.

Using operant conditioning procedures, we assessed the olfactory sensitivity of six CD-1 mice and three spider monkeys for mold-associated odorants. We found that with all eight stimuli, the mice detected concentrations as low as 0.1 ppm (parts per million), and with two of them individual animals even detected concentrations as low as 1 ppt (parts per trillion).

There is no preferred treatment option for metastatic breast cancer; therefore, treatment should provide palliation, prolong survival, control symptoms, and improve quality of life. Liposomal doxorubicin formulations have been shown to have less alopecia, nausea, vomiting, and myelosuppression than traditional doxorubicin, but more skin toxicities and infusion reactions. Prolonged use of liposomal doxorubicin may be associated with unrecognized or less well-defined toxicities.

Methods: This was an observational study, including 225 photographic records (184 patients, 97 with pressure lesion and 128 registries without lesion) randomly selected from the total of photographs registered in the PENFUP clinical trial (without lesion). Three expert evaluators assessed said photographs in masked manner.
This study tested three psychosocial measures for their potential to serve as counseling goals for promoting ART to transgender women living with HIV (TWLH). Among 69 TWLH, 17.4% were not taking ART; these volunteers were compared to the remainder using multivariate regression analyses.

Our increased understanding of the way biology encodes the impact of life events on organisms has also generated more sophisticated theoretical models concerning the molecular processes at the interface between "nature" and "nurture." There is also increasing consensus that psychotherapy entails a specific type of learning in the context of an emotional relationship (i.

However, studies have been focused on simple wastewater matrices that do not offer enough information to stakeholders to evaluate their real potential in large-scale facilities. Chemical auxiliaries, commonly present in textile wastewaters (NaCl = 30 g/L, NaCO = 5 g/L, and CHCOONa = 1 g/L), affect both the economic and environmental performance of the process because they increase the treatment time (from 0.

Line bisection requires that the participants attend to the entire line (global attention). The longer segment often distracts participants, suggesting that attention directed to this segment (focal attention) disrupts the allocation of global attention.

Moreover, haemophilic patients have increased risk factors for low bone mineral density (LBMD) such as arthropathy and resulting immobility, increasing their risk for osteoporosis and fractures.
Aim: To assess the prevalence of LBMD and associated risk factors among a group of Colombian haemophilic patients.
This study evaluates the technical, economical, and environmental impact of sodium persulfate (NaSO) as an enhancing agent in a photo-Fenton process within a solar-pond type reactor (SPR). Photo-Fenton (PF) and photo-Fenton intensified with the addition of persulfate (PFPS) processes decolorize 97% the azo dye direct blue 71 (DB71) and allow producing a highly biodegradable effluent. Intensification with persulfate allowed reducing treatment time in 33% (from 120 to 80 min) and the consumption of chemical auxiliaries needed for pH adjustment.
