Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how cirrhosis influences the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by comparing the long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) expressed in cirrhotic HCC (CHCC) versus noncirrhotic HCC (NCHCC).
  • Researchers identified a specific lncRNA called DERCNC, which is found to be significantly elevated in CHCC, correlating with worse tumor prognoses and increased tumor proliferation.
  • The study concludes that DERCNC promotes tumor growth by upregulating the SOX9 gene, revealing a new pathway through which cirrhosis may enhance cancer progression.

To investigate the role of neuropilin1 (Nrp1) in glucose metabolism and proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and to analyze its mechanism of action. The CRISPR gene knockout technique was used to knock out the Nrp1 gene in two HCC cell lines. The effect of Nrp1 on the proliferation of HCC cells was assessed in the CCK8 assay and plate cloning assay.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) compared to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • A meta-analysis of six cohort studies with 188 patients in the HIFU group and 224 patients in the TACE group revealed no difference in the 1-year overall survival rate or tumor response, but HIFU showed better 6-month and 2-year survival rates postoperatively.
  • The conclusion suggests that while HIFU might have comparable safety to TACE, further high-quality studies are needed to confirm its advantages, given the limitations of the current research.

Background: Focal liver lesions (FLLs) are abnormal masses that are distinguishable from the surrounding liver parenchyma, solid or cystic and may be benign or malignant. They are usually detected incidentally on abdominal examinations. The classification of FLLs is very important as it directly determines the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
