The exotic polarization configurations of topologically protected dipolar textures have opened new avenues for realizing novel phenomena absent in traditional ferroelectric systems. While multiple recent studies have revealed a diverse array of emergent properties in such polar topologies, the details of their atomic and mesoscale structures remain incomplete. Through atomic- and meso-scale imaging techniques, the emergence of a macroscopic ferroelectric polarization along both principal axes of the vortex lattice while performing phase-field modeling to probe the atomic scale origins of these distinct polarization components is demonstrated.

This highlights the critical need for precise HER2 immunohistochemistry (IHC) interpretation serving as a triage tool for selecting patients for anti-HER2 regimens. With increasing applications for voltage-controlled magnetism, the need to more fully understand magnetoelectric coupling and strain transfer in nanostructured multiferroic composites has also increased. Here, multiferroic nanocomposites were synthesized using block copolymer templating to create mesoporous cobalt ferrite (CFO), followed by partly filling the pores with ferroelectric zirconium-substituted hafnia (HZO) using atomic layer deposition (ALD) to produce a porous multiferroic composite with enhanced mechanical flexibility. Upon electrical poling of the nanocomposite, we observed large changes in the magnetization.

Atomically thin graphene layers can act as a spin-sink material when adjacent to a nanoscale magnetic surface. The enhancement in the extrinsic spin-orbit coupling (SOC) strength of graphene plays an important role in absorbing the spin angular momentum injected from the magnetic surface after perturbation with an external stimulus. The critical size limit of voltage-switchable electric dipoles has extensive implications for energy-efficient electronics, underlying the importance of ferroelectric order stabilized at reduced dimensionality. We report on the thickness-dependent antiferroelectric-to-ferroelectric phase transition in zirconium dioxide (ZrO) thin films on silicon. The emergent ferroelectricity and hysteretic polarization switching in ultrathin ZrO, conventionally a paraelectric material, notably persists down to a film thickness of 5 angstroms, the fluorite-structure unit-cell size.

A 74-year-old male with an unintentional 20-pound weight loss over the past year presented with new-onset dysphagia to solid foods. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed a subtle stricture with ill-defined scar tissue-like findings in the distal esophagus and erosions in the antrum of the stomach without masses. Pathologic findings showed the presence of amyloidosis involving the proximal and distal esophagus, as well as gastric mucosa with chronic inflammation and reactive epithelial changes.
