Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) severity is correlated with systemic infection incidence in the acute phase, and it is important to assess inflammation during the disease course and to recognize infection at an early stage. As in sepsis, inflammation in AP impairs tissue oxygen metabolism and disrupts microcirculation. We performed a vascular occlusion test (VOT) via near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), which noninvasively monitors local oxygen in peripheral tissues, to evaluate tissue oxygen metabolism and blood circulation during the acute AP phase.

Rhabdomyolysis can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI), primarily due to myoglobin-induced tubular damage. We present a case of slowly progressive rhabdomyolysis following SARS-CoV-2 infection in a 28-year-old male who was monitored through serial serum creatine kinase (CK) and myoglobin levels. Despite prominent CK elevations, the patient did not develop AKI, probably due to disproportionately mild serum myoglobin elevation with distinctive cyclic spikes.

We report the case of a 51-year-old Japanese man with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) initially diagnosed in the chronic phase. For 16 years, the patient maintained chronic phase (CP) under treatment with first- and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), including imatinib, dasatinib, and bosutinib, none of which resulted in ABL1 mutations. However, despite long-term disease stability, the patient experienced an abrupt progression to the megakaryocytic blast phase (MBP), a rare and aggressive form of CML.

We present a novel set of quantitative measures for "likeness" (error function) designed to alleviate the time-consuming and subjective nature of manually comparing biological recordings from electrophysiological experiments with the outcomes of their mathematical models. Our innovative "blended" system approach offers an objective, high-throughput, and computationally efficient method for comparing biological and mathematical models. This approach involves using voltage recordings of biological neurons to drive and train mathematical models, facilitating the derivation of the error function for further parameter optimization.
