Background: This study aimed to evaluate VE of primary, first, and second booster ancestral-strain monovalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccination against symptomatic infections and severe diseases in Japan.
Methods: We conducted a test-negative case-control study. We included medically attended episodes and hospitalizations involving individuals aged 16 with signs and symptoms from July to November 2022, when Omicron BA.
Background: There is limited data on the impact of COVID-19 epidemic on the number of orthopaedic surgeries in Japan.
Methods: We conducted a nationwide hospital survey asking for the monthly number of orthopaedic surgeries performed at each facility from January 2019 to June 2021. Those facilities that had performed at least 100 surgeries in 2019 were included for analyses.
Introduction: Patients with stroke often experience pneumonia during the acute stage after stroke onset. Oral care may be effective in reducing the risk of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). We aimed to determine the changes in oral care, as well as the incidence of SAP, in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage, following implementation of a learning health system in our hospital.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: In 2010, we established the Miyazaki Comprehensive Hearing Care Network (MCHCN) for early identification and intervention in children with congenital and late-onset/acquired hearing loss with the cooperation of related administrative bodies in Miyazaki prefecture. The central roles of the MCHCN program are played by the Hearing Care Center (HCC) at the University of Miyazaki Hospital established in 2010 to facilitate audiological diagnoses, hearing aid interventions, and educational efforts, as well as linkage with the Department of Otolaryngology for surgical interventions. Evidence demonstrates that the expression and single nucleotide polymorphisms of relate with survival and risk of lung cancer in never smokers. To search for giant X-ray pulses correlated with the giant radio pulses (GRPs) from the Crab pulsar, we performed a simultaneous observation of the Crab pulsar with the X-ray satellite Hitomi in the 2 - 300 keV band and the Kashima NICT radio observatory in the 1.4 - 1.7 GHz band with a net exposure of about 2 ks on 25 March 2016, just before the loss of the Hitomi mission.

In this study, we performed live imaging analyses of Neuro-2a cells expressing SCAT3, a caspase-3 cleavage peptide sequence linking two fluorescent proteins; enhanced cyan fluorescence protein (ECFP) and Venus, to determine whether sodium arsenite (NaAsO(2); 0, 1, 5, or 10 μM) affects both neurite outgrowth and/or induces apoptosis with the same doses and in the same cell cultures. We observed that the area ratio of neurite to cell body in SCAT3-expressing cells was significantly reduced by 5 and 10 μM NaAsO(2), but not by 1 μM, although the emission ratio of ECFP to Venus, an endpoint of caspase-3 activity, was not changed.

Its light scattering, ion transport, and aqueous electrolyte retention characteristics were examined. As a result, the shape of the nanocomposites was completely self-standing, though it could be impregnated with about nine times as much water on a weight basis.

The study was performed to indicate the ADPase activity of 5'-nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDEase) from human umbilical cord blood serum and demonstrates the effect of this enzyme on ADP-induced platelet aggregation. The PDEase was purified by using p-nitrophenyl-5'-TMP as a substrate. The PDEase had a molecular weight of 128,000 daltons, and activity of 103 nmol/min/mg protein.
