Although rare, penetrating cervical vascular injury poses significant challenges with a poor patient prognosis, often attributed to severe hemorrhage and accompanying injuries. We encountered a case of hemorrhagic shock resulting from a penetrating injury to the common carotid artery (CCA), which was successfully managed using a combination of endovascular therapy and direct surgical intervention. A 23-year-old man presented with a self-inflicted stab wound on the left side of his neck from a kitchen knife.

This retrospective study investigated the relationship between indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence angiography during esophagectomy and postoperative endoscopy findings, especially mucosal color change.
Methods: This study retrospectively collected data from 86 patients who underwent subtotal esophagectomy and reconstruction using a gastric tube for esophageal cancer at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University between 2017 and 2020.
Purpose: To determine the relationship between family uncertainty and family quality of life (QOL) during the recovery period of patients with cerebrovascular disease in Japan, and the factors that influence family uncertainty.
Methods: Data were collected from copies of patient medical files and interviews with family members of 85 patients admitted to two rehabilitation wards in Japan. Family uncertainty was measured using the Japanese version of the Managing Uncertainty in Illness Scale-Family Member form (MUIS-FM) and family QOL using the World Health Organization Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5).
Objective: To investigate the differences in amniotic fluid cardiac biomarkers and clinical features among types of right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) abnormality in monochorionic (MC) twins.
Method: This prospective study included MC twins that underwent laser surgery. Recipient or larger twins (group A) and donor or smaller twins (group B) were assessed and divided into those with a normal right ventricular outflow tract (normal RVOT), functional pulmonary atresia (fPA), or pulmonary stenosis (PS).
Non-islet cell tumor hypoglycemia (NICTH) is a very rare symptom of severe hypoglycemia associated with extrapancreatic tumors. It is considered to be caused by insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-II. There have been no autopsy cases of colorectal carcinoma with NICTH confirmed with both serum high molecular weight and tumoral IGF-II.

Methods: The retrospective cohort study (2012-2018) was conducted in monochorionic twin pregnancies that underwent FLP for TTTS between 26 and 27 weeks from 2012 to 2018. The perioperative data, maternal complications, gestational age (GA) at delivery, neonatal complications, and survival of infants at 28 days of age were analyzed.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to retrospectively examine the use of lung-to-liver signal intensity ratio (LLSIR) on T2-weighted images to predict functional pulmonary hypoplasia.
Methods: The subjects of this study were pregnant women who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Patients who required nitric oxide inhalation and those who died from respiratory disorders were classified as having functional pulmonary hypoplasia (FPH).
Nodal metastatic foci of colorectal carcinoma are usually solid nodules. Serous inclusions are occasionally found in lymph nodes, particularly in female patients, and they occasionally form cysts. An 86-year-old woman was treated with laparoscopic low anterior resection and D3 lymph node dissection for advanced rectal carcinoma.

This method can reduce allogeneic transfusions as well as its associated risks and costs. Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is an abnormal maternal response to ICSA similar to the classic systemic inflammatory response syndrome, but its mechanism is not well understood.

Methods: We enrolled 73 patients with cerebellopontine angle tumor, and used a biphasic, constant current, and suprathreshold stimulation (BCS) protocol to record FMEP of the orbicularis oris. We measured the intraoperative minimum-to-baseline amplitude ratio (MBR), the final-to-baseline amplitude ratio (FBR), and the recovery value (RV).
An ependymoma of the sella turcica and the suprasellar region has been described by only 10 reports in the available literature. We describe similar pathology in a 70-year-old woman who presented with dementia and visual disturbance. Magnetic resonance imaging with gadolinium revealed a mixed contrast-enhanced lesion(maximum diameter 3.

This study aimed to determine changes in circulating myomesin 3 fragments as a novel biomarker for exercise-induced muscle damage. Nine healthy males performed 10 sets of 40 repetitions of one-leg calf-raise exercise by the load corresponding to the half of their body weight.

Methods: This study was conducted from May 2017 to March 2019. It was undertaken on normal singleton fetuses.
We aimed to investigate whether the alterations of time intervals and velocity-time integrals (VTIs) of ductus venosus (DV) Doppler flow could predict evolving twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) in monochorionic diamniotic (MD) twin pregnancies in the second trimester. DV Doppler waveforms of MD twin pregnancies were retrospectively analyzed. Time intervals and VTIs of the accelerating phase of S-wave (S1 and VTI-1), decelerating phase of S-wave (S2 and VTI-2) and phase of D-wave (D and VTI-diast) were measured in the recipient twins of TTTS and the larger twins of uncomplicated MD twins.

The compound muscle action potential (CMAP) of CN-IV cannot be recorded because of the low mapping sensitivity and anatomical characteristics of the superior oblique muscle (SOM). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel needle electrode (NNE), for the intraoperative mapping of CN-IV.

Abdominal CT revealed a 9 cm diameter mass in the mesocolon. The differential diagnosis included desmoid tumor, and right hemicolectomy with partial resection of the pancreas head and duodenum was performed.

We herein report a case of symptomatic ACTH-and GH-producing double pituitary adenomas, which were discretely located within the same pituitary gland. A 38-year-old woman presented with general malaise, facial and lower limb edema, unexplained weight gain, facial redness, acne, and nasal enlargement.

Spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)rhinorrhea may have multiple leakage sites, and occasionally, may become difficult to manage. A 46-year-old man was admitted to our hospital presenting with bacterial meningitis that occurred after CSF rhinorrhea. The CSF leak had stopped following conservative medical treatment;however, it recurred immediately.
