Background: Bone marrow signal is ideally evaluated with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) due to its high tissue contrast. While advanced MRI quantitative methods can be used for estimating bone density, there are no readily available parameters on routine clinical MRI sequences of the lumbar spine.
