SARS-CoV-2 infection could trigger autoimmune disease. We report a case of concomitant exacerbation of Graves orbitopathy (GO) and myasthenia gravis (MG) after SARS-CoV-2 infection. A 43-year-old woman had diplopia, proptosis, and swollen eyelids.

Morphological identification and phylogenetic analysis of Eimeria coypi and Eimeria fluviatilis (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) isolated from nutrias (Myocastor coypus [Rodentia]) in Japan.

The nutria (Myocastor coypus) is a semiaquatic rodent that originally inhabited South America. However, the animals have spread to different continents as alien species, and their numbers are quickly increasing, especially in North America, Europe, and Eastern Asia including Japan. Although nutrias have been suggested to serve as reservoirs for pathogens, including parasites, there have been few reports on this subject.

Predictive complement biomarkers for relapse in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders.

Background: Biomarkers that predict disease activity and prognosis should be established for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). In this study, we investigated the association between complement factors and the prognosis of NMOSD.

Methods: We validated laboratory parameters as potential prognostic factors in 34 patients with NMOSD (31 females and 3 males) whose serum was collected at the time of recurrence and who were subsequently followed-up for 3 years without the use of biologics.

Efficacy of apheresis in antibody-negative progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity and myoclonus.

Introduction: Progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity and myoclonus (PERM) is characterized by brainstem symptoms, muscle rigidity, and myoclonus. While autoantibodies to inhibitory neurons have been associated with the pathology, about 30% of cases are negative for autoantibodies. There are few reported cases of antibody-negative PERM and its clinical course and prognosis are unknown.

Two independent families with de novo whole APC gene deletion and intellectual disability: a case report.

Background: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant colorectal tumour syndrome characterised by the formation of multiple adenomatous polyps throughout the colon. It is important to understand the extracolonic phenotype that characterizes FAP. Most previous case reports of patients with both FAP and intellectual disability (ID) have described deletions in all or part of chromosome 5q, including the APC locus.

Successful Fertility Preservation in a Case of Low-Grade Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma: A Multidisciplinary Approach Through the Oncofertility Network.

Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LGESS) is a rare disease, accounting for less than 1% of all uterine malignancies. Standard treatment is total hysterectomy and bilateral tubal oophorectomy, although fertility preservation may be desirable because of the young age of onset. We document a case of fertility preservation in a 27-year-old nulligravida diagnosed with LGESS, which not only enabled the successful birth of two live infants but also underscores the efficacy of a multidisciplinary approach to patient treatment through the Hyogo Oncofertility Network (HOF-net).

Opisthorchiasis, caused by the liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini, is endemic to Southeast Asian countries and constitutes a major health problem as it increases the risk of cholangiocarcinoma. However, owing to the complicated life cycle of O. viverrini, there is no rapid method for monitoring the risk of infection in the environment.

Introduction: Preoperative estimations of blood loss are important when planning surgery for cervical spine injuries in older adults. The association between ankylosis and blood loss in perioperative management is of particular interest. This multicenter database review aimed to evaluate the impact of ankylosis on surgical blood loss volume in elderly patients with cervical spine injury.

Robotic salvage radical hysterectomy for locally recurrent cervical cancer: A comparison with open surgery in a single-surgeon series.

Aim: To compare the surgical and oncologic outcomes between patients with locally recurrent cervical cancer undergoing robotic-assisted salvage radical hysterectomy (RH) and those undergoing conventional open salvage RH, performed by a single surgeon.

Methods: This retrospective comparative observational study utilized data obtained from consecutive patients with locally recurrent cervical cancer, developed after definitive radiotherapy. These patients either underwent robot-assisted RH (robotic group) or conventional open RH (open group).

Psychological interventions to prevent the onset of major depression in adults: a systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis.

Background: Psychological interventions are increasingly discussed as a method to prevent major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults who already experience subthreshold depressive symptoms. In this individual participant data meta-analysis, we quantify the effect of preventive interventions against control on MDD onset in this population, and explore effect modifiers.

Methods: In this systematic review and individual participant data meta-analysis, we screened full-texts of eligible studies within the Metapsy research domain for articles on psychological interventions for depression, from database inception to May 1, 2023, published in English, German, Spanish, and Dutch.

Bactericidal effect of far ultraviolet-C irradiation at 222 nm against bacterial peritonitis.

Far ultraviolet-C irradiation at 222 nm has potent bactericidal effects against severe infections such as peritonitis, with minimal cytotoxicity. Bacterial peritonitis due to bowel perforation is a serious condition with high mortality despite current treatments. This study investigated the safety and efficacy of intraperitoneal far ultraviolet-C irradiation at 222 nm.

Myosteatosis Evaluated Based on Intramuscular Adipose Tissue Content Is a Risk Factor for Postoperative Complications in Crohn's Disease.

Background: Crohn's disease causes acute and chronic inflammation that often make the preoperative evaluation of surgical risks difficult. Myosteatosis is used for the evaluation of muscle quality to assess sarcopenia. However, data on the relationship between myosteatosis and surgical outcomes in patients with Crohn's disease are lacking.

Mid-term outcomes of distal tibial oblique osteotomy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A report of three cases.

Although distal tibial oblique osteotomy (DTOO) has usually been indicated for noninflammatory diseases such as osteoarthritis, we encountered three patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who underwent DTOO. We evaluated radiographic parameters and clinical scores, including self-reported scores for the foot and ankle [self-administered foot evaluation questionnaire (SAFE-Q)] and the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Foot (JSSF) ankle/hindfoot scale. In all three cases, radiographic improvements were achieved along with improvements in SAFE-Q and JSSF scores after mid-term follow-up.

QT interval in children with orthostatic dysregulation: Changes in standing load.

Background: The corrected QT interval (QTc) is affected by changes in autonomic sympathovagal modulation. The aim of this study was to determine whether children with orthostatic dysregulation (OD) have a longer QTc while standing than children without OD.

Methods: We retrospectively assessed patients who underwent the Schellong test and electrocardiography between November 2016 and November 2019.

Long-Term Effects of Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Depression Prevention Among University Students: Randomized Controlled Factorial Trial.

Background: Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) shows promise in the prevention of depression. However, the specific iCBT components that contribute to its effectiveness remain unclear.

Objective: We aim to evaluate the effects of iCBT components in preventing depression among university students.

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia to treat major depressive disorder with comorbid insomnia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) has demonstrated efficacy for both insomnia and depression. With a tenfold increase in expected participant numbers, we aimed to update the systematic review and meta-analysis of CBT-I for major depressive disorders (MDD).

Methods: Multiple databases were searched up to March 27th 2024 to include all randomized controlled trials examining CBT-I among adults with MDD.
