Knowledge and attitudes of preclinical and clinical medical students toward epilepsy: A cross-sectional study from Turkey.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the epilepsy-related knowledge and attitudes toward epilepsy in medical students. In addition, these parameters were evaluated according to national geographic regions, preclinical and clinical characteristics.

Methods: This study was a cross-sectional, observational design and it was conducted among medical students in a centrally located city, Turkey.

Evaluation of the relationship between dietary acid load and cardiovascular risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes: a case-control study.

Backround: Diets high in dietary acid load are thought to be associated with metabolic diseases. However, the number of studies examining the relationship between dietary acid load and metabolic diseases in Turkey is insufficient. Designers actively pursue the use of novel materials and concepts in furniture and interior design. By providing insights into their processing behavior and suitability for 3D-printing processes, this research helps to highlight the potential of using waste materials to create more environmentally friendly and sustainable 3D-printing filaments that can be used in furniture and interior design. Furthermore, the study evaluates the effect of incorporating palm midrib nanoparticles (DPFNPs) to reinforce a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix with different loadings such as 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 wt.

Background: The relationship between childhood trauma (CT) and psychotic symptoms in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ), and subthreshold psychotic experiences in non-clinical populations is well-established. However, little is known about the relationship between subtypes of trauma and specific symptoms in patients, their siblings, and controls. It is also not clear which variables mediate the relationship between trauma and psychotic symptoms.

Critical assessment of the effectiveness of different dust control measures in a granite quarry.

The exposure to respirable crystalline silica found in granite dust presents significant health hazards to quarry workers and nearby communities, including silicosis and various respiratory ailments. This study evaluates the efficacy of various pollution control measures implemented in granite quarries. It aimed to provide a comprehensive critical assessment of the effectiveness of various dust control measures, considering their mechanisms, impact on air quality, and implications for worker health and community welfare.

Insulin-like Growth Factor II mRNA-binding Protein 3 is a Highly Sensitive Marker for Intravascular Large B-cell Lymphoma: Immunohistochemical Analysis of 152 Pathology Specimens From 88 Patients.

Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a rare type of aggressive extranodal large B-cell lymphoma characterized by the selective growth of lymphoma cells within the lumina of blood vessels, particularly capillaries. IVLBCL lacks mass formation, and its diagnosis can be challenging. We analyzed the utility of insulin-like growth factor II mRNA-binding protein 3 (IMP3) immunohistochemistry for IVLBCL diagnosis in various organs.

Association between body weight perception and actual body mass index among adult women in Erbil city, Iraq.

Background: The misperception of body weight can significantly affect individuals' health behaviors, such as physical activity, diet, and weight management. This study aimed to examine the association between body weight perception and actual body mass index (BMI) among adult women and explore the factors influencing this relationship.

Methods: Five hundred forty female individuals aged 18-65 participated in this cross-sectional study.

Barriers to lifestyle modification in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a scoping review.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is common worldwide, and lifestyle modifications are key to its treatment. This study aimed to identify the barriers to lifestyle modifications in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and to organize the results using the Capability Opportunity Motivation-Behavior (COM-B) model. The framework of Arksey and O' Malley was used in this scoping review.

Evaluation of the Relationship Between Psychopathology and Environmental Factors in Psychiatric Diseases by Nonrecursive Modeling.

Background: In the field of psychiatry, environmental factors, disease status and severity, functionality, perceived social support, and social relations are variables that affect psychopathology. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between environmental factors, disease diagnosis and severity with psychopathology using nonrecursive models included in structural equation modeling.

Methods: Within the scope of the study, 378 patients' demographic characteristics, as well as their responses to the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Personal and Social Performance Scale were included.

Glioma, a kind of malignant brain tumor, is extremely lethal. Kinesin family member 2C (KIF2C) was found to have an aberrant expression in several cancer types, including lung cancer and glioma. KIF2C may therefore be a useful therapeutic target for the treatment of glioma.

A cross-sectional study on the perceived barriers to physical exercise among women in Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

Background: Limited research has investigated the barriers to physical exercise among women in Iraqi Kurdistan Region and other similar Muslim and Middle Eastern societies. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of perceived barriers to physical exercise among women and examine the associations of these barriers with the participants' sociodemographic characteristics.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan Region, from December 2022 to January 2023.

Determinants of Choice of Facility-Based Delivery among Mothers in Kwara State, Nigeria.

Background: Nigeria has the highest number of maternal deaths in the world, which is a major public health problem. One of the major contributory factors is high prevalence of unskilled birth attendance from low facility delivery. However, the reasons for and against facility delivery are complex and not fully understood.

This study evaluated possible mitigating effect of adropin on lung injury in diabetic rats, targeting role of Rho A/Rho-associated kinase pathway. Rats were allocated into four groups: control, adropin, diabetic, and diabetic+adropin groups. At the termination of the experiment, serum fasting glucose, insulin and adropin levels and insulin resistance were calculated.

SARS-CoV-2 variants-associated outbreaks of COVID-19 in a tertiary institution, North-Central Nigeria: Implications for epidemic control.

The COVID-19 global pandemic is being driven by evolving SARS-CoV-2 variants with consequential implications on virus transmissibility, host immunity, and disease severity. Continuous molecular and genomic surveillance of the SARS-CoV-2 variants is therefore necessary for public health interventions toward the management of the pandemic. This study is a retrospective analysis of COVID-19 cases reported in a Nigerian tertiary institution from July to December 2021.

Mobile Money and the importance of timely, complete payments to frontline health campaign workers in the fight to eradicate polio: pilot experience from a World Health Organization digital payment platform in Africa.

Background: In response to the increase in vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 in Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, and many other African countries from 2017 to 2019, concentrated efforts are needed to improve the effectiveness of vaccination campaigns. Frontline polio health campaign worker engagement and job retention are critical to successful campaign implementation, as well as timely, in-full payment to these workers via an electronic system.

Methods: The Global Polio Eradication Initiative and its partners designed a road map to implement the World Health Organization Mobile Money digital payment system for health campaign workers across designated African Region countries and country-specific areas.
