The electrochemical corrosive processes compromise the passivity of reinforcing steel, potentially leading to structural integrity loss and, in extreme cases, concrete infrastructure failures. While bio-inspired concretes show promise in mitigating strength degradation and enabling self-healing of concrete flaws, their interaction with steel reinforcement remains underexplored. Thus, this investigation aimed to establish a protective strategy by fostering biofilm growth on rebar surfaces.
