Study of Prevalence, Awareness,and control of Hypertension in a Suburban Area of Kathmandu, Nepal.

BACKGROUND, In the context of rapidly raising occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in the developing countries, it becomes imperative to study the scenario in its various aspects. The present study in Nepal deals with the hypertension as it is one of the major risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. METHODS AND RESULTS, A house-to-house survey was conducted in a suburban area of Kathmandu valley from February to June 2005 in adult population (age >/=18 years) to estimate the prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control rates of hypertension.

The combined use of esophageal electrocardiogram and multiple right parasternal chest leads in the diagnosis of PSVT and determination of accessory pathways involved: a new simple noninvasive approach.

Introduction: Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia (PSVT) resulting from any cause can at times lead to diagnostic difficulty mainly when due to AVNRT and AVRT. In this study we used a non-invasive approach using esophageal ECG (ECGe) and ECG derived from the various right parasternal chest leads (RPCL) to correctly diagnose the type of PSVT as well the accessory pathways involved in AVRT.

Methods And Results: We studied a total of 161 patients (89 male) all having a history of palpitation.

T helper cell related interleukins and the angiographic morphology in unstable angina.

Angiographically visible complex lesions, associated with disrupted plaques and intraluminal thrombus, are more common in unstable angina (UA). The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between the complex lesions and the T helper cells related Interleukins (IL). We analyzed the concentrations of IL-10, IL-12, IL-18 using ELISA and that of hsCRP using Latex particle enhanced Immunoturbidimetry in 50 patients of UA.
