Article Synopsis
  • A water-soluble glycopeptide called GL-PWQ was extracted from Ganoderma lucidum using techniques like hot water extraction and gel chromatography, revealing it primarily comprises glucose and galactose.
  • Analysis identified its polysaccharide component as a glucogalactan, featuring various sugar linkages and branches in its structure.
  • The GL-PWQ exhibited strong anti-oxidative properties in kidney cells, suggesting potential uses as a natural antioxidant in medicine and functional foods.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is one of the most common life-threatening monogenetic diseases characterized by progressive enlargement of fluid-filled renal cysts. Our previous study has shown that Ganoderma triterpenes (GT) retards PKD renal cyst development. In the present study we identified the effective ingredient of GT in suppression of kidney cyst development.

Malignant gliomas are the most common brain tumors with high rates of recurrence and mortality. Novel approaches are in research, and immunotherapy emerges as a promising strategy. Recently, scientific attention has been focused on Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides (GL-PS), one of the critical bioactive components of G lucidum, which have been recognized as a promising natural source of immunomodulatory and anticancer compounds.

GL-PP-3A, an active polysaccharide peptide, was isolated and purified from Ganoderma lucidum, and then its structure was analyzed. Crude polysaccharide peptides were extracted from Ganoderma lucidum with hot water, precipitated with ethanol and then dialyzed from Ganoderma lucidum. Subsequently GL-PP-3A was isolated and purified from the crude polysaccharide peptides by fractional precipitation and chromatography of Bio-Gel P-10 column.
