Psychosocial Factors and the Need for Multidisciplinary Support in Nutrition Counselling for Cancer Chemotherapy Patients.

This study aims to identify the background factors and experiences of patients with cancer with eating-related problems who require nutrition counselling. Using a mixed-methods approach, this secondary analysis study was conducted on patients with head and neck, oesophageal, gastric, colorectal, or lung cancers who were receiving outpatient chemotherapy. They completed a questionnaire measuring nutrition impact symptoms, eating-related distress, and quality of life (QOL).

Semi-automatic retractable handrail utilising opening/closing movement of sliding door supporting elderly people to walk independently: proposed and satisfied design specifications for elderly people.

The purpose of this research is to install a handrail on sliding doors used in hospitals and nursing facilities to support the elderly and disabled to walk by themselves. Semi-automatic lifting equipment is utilised for the retractable handrail to make sure people in bad health are able to open the door using minimal force. This paper summarises ergonomic considerations to develop the product above.

Non-inferior clinical outcomes of immune checkpoint inhibitors in non-small cell lung cancer patients with interstitial lung disease.

Objectives: The efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with pre-existing interstitial lung disease (ILD) is unclear.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective medical data from advanced or recurrent NSCLC patients who were treated with nivolumab or pembrolizumab at ten institutions in Japan between January 2016 and September 2018 were analyzed. Eligible patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of pre-existing ILD.

Impact of comorbidity and relative dose intensity on outcomes in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients treated with R-CHOP.

Background: Comorbidity and relative dose intensity (RDI) have been associated with survival in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients, but both relationships remain unaddressed in the same patients.

Methods: A retrospective review of consecutive DLBCL patients treated from January 2010 to October 2018 was performed. Data for the clinical characteristics of the patients, including the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) and RDI, on their outcomes were evaluated.

However, the effects of CHO supplementation on muscle IL-6 production during endurance exercise is controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of CHO supplementation on muscle IL-6 production during endurance exercise with a special focus on the IL-6 producing cells.

Need and demand for nutritional counselling and their association with quality of life, nutritional status and eating-related distress among patients with cancer receiving outpatient chemotherapy: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: Patients with cancer often experience general nutritional problems as the disease progresses. We aimed to examine if there is a need and demand for nutritional counselling among cancer outpatients, and explore relevant psychological factors pertaining to eating and nutrition.

Methods: A survey was conducted among adult patients receiving outpatient chemotherapy at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Hospital.

Thirty-nine multiparous Holstein cows were allocated into two groups.

Effect of Chlorogenic Acids on Cognitive Function: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial.

(1) Background: Chlorogenic acids (CGAs) have been attracting interest of late, owing to their health benefits. Here, we performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to investigate whether CGAs improved cognitive function in humans. (2) Methods: Thirty-eight healthy participants were assigned to either the CGA group, which was given CGA-added beverage daily for 16 weeks, or the placebo group.

Purpose: The procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids (PPH) has the advantage of less postoperative pain. However, serious postoperative complications have been reported after PPH, and the postoperative recurrence rate is high in comparison with conventional Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy (MMH). The purpose of this study was to evaluate PPH with low rectal anastomosis (PPH-LA) in comparison with the original PPH and MMH.

Modified Gas Chromatographic Method to Determine Monoacylglycerol and Diacylglycerol Contents in Edible Fats and Oils.

Monoacylglycerol (MAG) and diacylglycerol (DAG) are minor components of edible fats and oils, and they relate to the quality of these foods. The AOCS official method Cd 11b-91 has been used to determine MAG and DAG contents in fats and oils. There are, however, difficulties in the determination of MAG and DAG using this analytical procedure.

Clinical outcomes after IVF or ICSI using human blastocysts derived from oocytes containing aggregates of smooth endoplasmic reticulum.

In this study the clinical and neo-natal outcomes after transfer of blastocysts derived from oocytes containing aggregates of smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) were compared between IVF and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles. Clinical and neo-natal outcomes of blastocysts in cycles with at least one SER metaphase II oocyte (SER + MII; SER + cycles) did not significantly differ between the two insemination methods. When SER + MII were cultured to day 5/6, fertilization, embryo cleavage and blastocyst rates were not significantly different between IVF and ICSI cycles.

A finite element head and neck model as a supportive tool for deformable image registration.

Purpose: A finite element (FE) head and neck model was developed as a tool to aid investigations and development of deformable image registration and patient modeling in radiation oncology. Useful aspects of a FE model for these purposes include ability to produce realistic deformations (similar to those seen in patients over the course of treatment) and a rational means of generating new configurations, e.g.

[Independent Occurrence of a Mediastinal Bronchogenic Cyst and an Intralobar Pulmonary Sequestration].

Here we describe a case of an 18-year-old boy who exhibited abnormal pulmonary parenchyma supplied by an aberrant artery from the descending aorta in the right lower lobe of the lung and a cystic tumor measuring 34×26×54 mm in the right upper mediastinum. Video-assisted thoracic surgery for resection of the 2 lesions showed that they were independent of each other. Final diagnosis of an intralobar pulmonary sequestration in the right lower lobe and a bronchogenic cyst in the upper mediastinum was made.

L-type amino acid transporter-1 and CD98 expression in bone and soft tissue tumors.

L-type amino acid transporter-1 (LAT1) is expressed in many cancers. We examined LAT1 and CD98 expression immunohistochemically in surgically resected specimens of various bone and soft tissue tumors. Out of 226 cases, 79 (35%) were LAT1(+) and 95 (42%) were CD98(+) .

Increasing corticospinal excitability in the antagonist muscle during muscle relaxation with a tracking task.

The present study aimed to investigate corticospinal excitability changes during muscle relaxation with a tracking task. The motor-evoked potential, which was elicited from the flexor carpi radialis (agonist) and extensor carpi radialis (antagonist) muscles, was analyzed in terms of both the relaxation velocity and phase. Our results suggest that increasing corticospinal excitability in the antagonist muscle plays an important role in controlling the relaxation of the agonist muscle during gradual relaxation with a tracking task.

Effect of fat content on sensory characteristics of marbled beef from Japanese Black steers.

To analyze the sensory characteristics of meat samples with a crude fat content between 23.8% and 48.6% taken from 34 Japanese Black steers, we grilled the meat and subjected it to analytical sensory evaluation.
