Background: Raising concerns is essential for the early detection and appropriate response to patient deterioration. However, factors such as hierarchy, leadership, and organizational culture can impact negatively on the willingness to raise concerns.
Objectives: This study aims to delve into how leadership, organizational cultures, and professional hierarchies in healthcare settings influence healthcare workers, patients, and caregivers in raising concerns about patient deterioration and their willingness to do so.
Background: Given the physical health disparities associated with mental illness, targeted lifestyle interventions are required to reduce the risk of cardiometabolic disease. Integrating physical health early in mental health treatment among young people is essential for preventing physical comorbidities, reducing health disparities, managing medication side effects, and improving overall health outcomes. Digital technology is increasingly used to promote fitness, lifestyle, and physical health among the general population.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: Recent years have seen innovation in 'mHealth' tools and health apps for the management/promotion of physical health and fitness across the general population. However, there is limited research on how this could be applied to mental healthcare. Therefore, we examined mental healthcare professionals' current uses and perceived roles of digital lifestyle interventions for promoting healthy lifestyles, physical health and fitness in youth mental healthcare.

This study investigated whether trained detection dogs could recognise an odour pattern from spore samples. Although dogs have previously been used to detect diseased larvae in colonies with AFB, this is the first time they have been investigated for detecting spore samples.

It has been shown that a naturally occurring heritable trait, "Varroa Sensitive Hygiene" (VSH), confers an advantage to colonies by increasing behaviours that limit the survival and reproduction of Varroa mites. The SNP 9-9224292 is an adenine/guanine (A/G) polymorphism on chromosome 9 of Apis mellifera where the G allele was observed to be associated with VSH behaviour in North American honey bees.

Design: Qualitative study.
Method: We held a Tweetchat in May 2019, where we asked questions around the frequency of 12-hr shifts working on placement; schedule flexibility while on placement; which shift patterns they preferred and why.
Over the last 15 years, the number of school and community based health-intervention programs in the United States has grown. Many of these programs aim to prevent non-communicable chronic disease diagnoses (e.g.

This pilot study aims to assess feasibility and determine sample size for a subsequent trial comparing DL instruction using a Macintosh-style video laryngoscope (MacVL), with and without video recordings, with conventional DL instruction.
Methods: Medical students with no prior laryngoscopy experience were recruited during their two-week anesthesia rotation.
The effects of levels of antioxidant [gallic acid or ethylene diamine tetraacetate (EDTA)] in a sunflower oil salad dressing emulsion (SOSDE) and shelf life affecting conditions on aroma, anisidine values (AV) and peroxide values (PV) were determined. Aroma differences between products with different concentrations of antioxidants were more apparent for ambient than accelerated stored SOSDEs. Aroma differences were more noted between SOSDEs with different antioxidants than antioxidant concentrations per se.

Because they often show intra-specific genetic and phenotypic variation, which can result from drift or differential selective pressures between habitats, understanding the distribution of such variation and its underlying processes is a prerequisite to develop effective management guidelines. Indeed, translocations among genetically differentiated populations potentially locally adapted are discouraged in order to avoid outbreeding depression, while translocations among populations characterized by high gene flow with no evidence for local adaptation are encouraged.

It is presumed that in the endemic regions, the number of exposed individuals is significantly greater than those in whom clinical manifestations develop. We conducted a case-control study of individuals with clinical blastomycosis and controls with similar exposure but who did not develop disease.

FREM1 was first identified as an extracellular matrix protein that is essential for the formation of the epithelial basement membrane during embryonic development. Recent studies have shown that FREM1 also modulates innate immunity through its isoform 2 splice variant protein, known as Toll-like/interleukin-1 receptor regulator (TILRR). TILRR is a co-receptor that enhances pro-inflammatory IL-1R1 signal transduction.

Studies have shown that polymorphisms of genes involved in antigen presentation and viral restriction factors are associated with resistance to HIV infection. To discover other possible genetic factors underlying this HIV-resistant phenotype, we conducted an exploratory nonbiased, low-resolution, genome-wide single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis comparing 60 HIV-resistant women to 48 HIV-infected controls.

Several populations of HIV-exposed uninfected (EU) women have been identified, including discordant couples and sex workers. Understanding what provides natural protection in EU women is critical in vaccine or microbicide development.

We conducted a multicentre prospective study to establish whether timing of interventions influences prognosis. We report 3-year overall and disease-free survival (OS/DFS) results for 'primary analysis' patients (regular cycles, no oral contraceptives within previous 6 months).

The 'Arimidex, Tamoxifen Alone or in Combination' (ATAC) trial, the largest multinational randomized trial of adjuvant therapy for patients with operable breast carcinoma to date, offers the opportunity to investigate whether nationality is one such factor.
Methods: After receiving primary therapy for early-stage breast carcinoma, 9,366 women (from a total of 21 countries) were randomized to receive anastrozole, tamoxifen, or anastrozole plus tamoxifen for 5 years.
An established biochemical index for monitoring therapy in patients with metastatic breast cancer was tested prospectively in a multicentre study. The index uses two serum tumour markers--carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA15-3) along with erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). 67 patients treated by either endocrine or chemotherapy had CA15-3, CEA and ESR measured at diagnosis of metastases and sequentially during therapy.

Three groups of patients received a median of four (range 2-4) cycles of combination chemotherapy: group I operable primary (n = 10); group II, locally advanced disease (n = 20); group III, recurrent locoregional disease (n = 22). The response rates (complete response, partial response and mixed response) in these groups of patients were 100% in groups I and II and 86% in group III.
