Aims: The G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER) may modulate some effects of aldosterone. In addition, G-1 (a GPER agonist) can lower blood pressure (BP) and promote T cell-mediated anti-inflammatory responses. This study aimed to test the effects of G-1 and G-15 (a GPER antagonist) on aldosterone-induced hypertension in mice and to examine the cellular mechanisms involved.

Alkylation is one of the most ubiquitous forms of DNA lesions. However, the motif preferences and substrates for the activity of the major types of alkylating agents defined by their nucleophilic substitution reactions (SN1 and SN2) are still unclear. Utilizing yeast strains engineered for large-scale production of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), we probed the substrate specificity, mutation spectra and signatures associated with DNA alkylating agents.

Nucleolar localization of the Notch4 intracellular domain underpins its regulation of the cellular response to genotoxic stressors.

Cell survival is one of the many cellular processes regulated by Notch family of proteins. A comparison of human breast cancer cell lines, which differ in the levels of endogenous Notch4, implicated the protein in regulating susceptibility to apoptosis triggered by genomic damage. In agreement with this observation, increased susceptibility to genotoxic damage was observed following siRNA ablations of Notch4 in two breast cancer cell lines.

A potential seedling-stage evaluation method for heat tolerance in Indian mustard ( L. Czern and Coss).

Heat stress is one of the major limitations to crop productivity. In the present study, an efficient method of screening was adopted for identification of heat tolerant Indian Mustard genotypes by applying 4-day cycle of heat stress to seedlings. Thirty-four genotypes were screened based upon lipid peroxidation and survival percentage and classified them into five different classes according to membership function value (MFV) for response against high temperature.

Solitary neurofibroma of maxilla: a rare clinical entity.

Unlabelled: Chondrocyte viability is a crucial factor for evaluating cartilage health. Most prevalent cell viability assays rely on dyes and are not applicable for or longitudinal studies. Here we demonstrated that the two-photon excited autofluorescence and second harmonic generation microscopy provided high-resolution imaging of cartilage tissue and distinguished live/dead chondrocytes by visual assessment.

Trends in postrelapse survival in classic Hodgkin lymphoma patients after experiencing therapy failure following auto-HCT.

Patients with classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) who relapse after autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (auto-HCT) historically have had poor outcomes. We hypothesized that, post-auto-HCT relapse, overall survival (PR-OS) has improved in recent years as a result of more widespread use of novel therapies and allogeneic HCT (allo-HCT). We conducted a retrospective study in 4 US academic centers, evaluating 215 patients who underwent auto-HCT from 2005 to 2016 and relapsed thereafter.

Outcome of Multiple Myeloma with Chromosome 1q Gain and 1p Deletion after Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation: Propensity Score Matched Analysis.

The gain/amplification CKS1B gene at chromosome region 1q21 (1q+) is one of the most common genetic aberrations in multiple myeloma (MM). Amplification of CKS1B is frequently associated with the deletion of the CDKN2C gene at chromosome region 1p32 (1p-), which is also associated with inferior outcomes. In this retrospective study, we evaluated the outcomes of patients with 1q+ and/or 1p- after high-dose therapy and autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (auto-HCT).

Enchondroma Arising from Flexor Tendon Sheath of Hand: A Rare Entity.

Chondromas of soft tissue are benign and relatively rare lesions. Proper clinical examination supplemented by radiologic and histopathologic examination is necessary to diagnose this entity. This must be differentiated from malignant soft tissue neoplasm like chondrosarcoma to avoid unnecessary radical treatment.

The protection mechanism offered by Heterophragma adenophyllum extract against Fe-C steel dissolution at low pH: Computational, statistical and electrochemical investigations.

An ethanolic extract of Heterophragma adenophyllum (HA) was investigated as a corrosion inhibitor for Fe-C steel in hydrochloric acid. The inhibition effect of the HA extract was examined using weight deterioration, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization techniques. EIS showed enhanced charge transfer resistance with a maximum protection value of ~96% at 600 ppm concentration.

Maternal iron nutriture modulates placental development in a rat model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.

Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) causes developmental abnormalities known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). Maternal iron status modulates the severity of these defects in the offspring. Because the placenta is central in supporting fetal development, we investigated whether maternal iron status similarly modulates alcohol's effects in the placenta.

Extractive single document summarization using binary differential evolution: Optimization of different sentence quality measures.

With the increase in the amount of text information in different real-life applications, automatic text-summarization systems become more predominant in extracting relevant information. In the current study, we formulated the problem of extractive text-summarization as a binary optimization problem, and multi-objective binary differential evolution (DE) based optimization strategy is employed to solve this. The solutions of DE encode a possible subset of sentences to be present in the summary which is then evaluated based on some statistical features (objective functions) namely, the position of the sentence in the document, the similarity of a sentence with the title, length of the sentence, cohesion, readability, and coverage.

Emergency Focused Assessment with Sonography in Blunt Trauma Abdomen.

Background: Focused assessment with sonography in trauma (FAST) being a rapid noninvasive examination is used primarily to evaluate for the evidence of traumatic free fluid suggestive of injury in the peritoneal, pericardial, and pleural cavities. It is widely recognized as a mainstream emergency skill in the management of trauma.

Rubella viruses (RV) have been found in an association with granulomas in children with primary immune deficiencies (PID). Here, we report the recovery and characterization of infectious immunodeficiency-related vaccine-derived rubella viruses (iVDRV) from diagnostic skin biopsies of four patients. Sequence evolution within PID hosts was studied by comparison of the complete genomic sequences of the iVDRVs with the genome of the vaccine virus RA27/3.

A single cancer genome can harbor thousands of clustered mutations. Mutation signature analyses have revealed that the origin of clusters are lesions in long tracts of single-stranded (ss) DNA damaged by apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide-like (APOBEC) cytidine deaminases, raising questions about molecular mechanisms that generate long ssDNA vulnerable to hypermutation. Here, we show that ssDNA intermediates formed during the repair of gamma-induced bursts of double-strand breaks (DSBs) in the presence of APOBEC3A in yeast lead to multiple APOBEC-induced clusters similar to cancer.

Alcohol's Dysregulation of Maternal-Fetal IL-6 and p-STAT3 Is a Function of Maternal Iron Status.

Background: Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) causes long-term growth and neurodevelopmental deficits that are worsened by maternal iron deficiency (ID). In our preclinical rat model, PAE causes fetal anemia, brain ID, and elevated hepatic iron via increased maternal and fetal hepcidin synthesis. These changes are normalized by a prenatal iron-fortified (IF) diet.

Study of prevalence of ocular manifestations in HIV positive patients.

Introduction: HIV/AIDS is a disorder which affects multiple systems in our body but ophthalmic manifestations do occur in 70-80% of patients sometime during their lifetime. Eye is affected either directly by HIV virus or indirectly through various opportunistic infections. HIV related ophthalmic manifestations are wide and can affect any part of eye from a dnexal disorders to posterior segment diseases including the optic nerve and the optic tract.

Hypocalcemic cardiomyopathy: a rare presenting manifestation of hypoparathyroidism.

Hypoparathyroidism patients present with features of hypocalcemia like carpopedal spasm, numbness and paresthesias but hypocalcemic cardiomyopathy leading to congestive heart failure (CHF) is a rare presentation. We present here a case of 55-year-old Asian man who was a known case of dilated cardiomyopathy for 6 months, presented with the chief complaints of shortness of breath on exertion and decreased urine output. On general physical examination, features suggestive of CHF were seen.

Comparison of antistreptolysin O and anti-deoxyribonucleic B titers in healthy children to those with acute pharyngitis, acute rheumatic fever, and rheumatic heart disease aged 5-15 years.

Background: Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) affects millions of children in the third world countries like India. The diagnosis of rheumatic fever is based on the Jones criteria with serological titers, antistreptolysin O titer (ASO), and anti-deoxyribonucleic B (ADB), taken as evidence of recent streptococci infection. There is a lack of recent data available on ASO and ADB titers in children from the Delhi/NCR and thus adequate geographical area-specific cutoffs for the region are not available.
