Article Synopsis
  • A strategy called "Integrated Management of Childhood Illness" (IMCI) was created in 1995 to reduce under-five mortality in high-child-mortality countries, with a new distance learning approach (dIMCI) recommended in 2014 for better training.
  • A qualitative study was carried out in Abbottabad, Pakistan, observing 26 basic health units where HCWs were trained in IMCI to see how they applied their training in real-life consultations.
  • Four key themes were identified from the observations: satisfaction after consultations, disputes over medication, failure to follow established protocols, and structured consultation practices, indicating that while IMCI training enhances skills, community awareness is vital for better adherence.
