Background: A large-scale epidemiological study of 6088 individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) and 4102 caregivers in nine countries documented elevated symptoms of depression and anxiety, leading to international guidelines for annual screening and follow-up. To facilitate national implementation, 84 CF programs funded a mental health coordinators (MHC). Implementation was evaluated after 1 year using the consolidated framework for implementation research (CFIR) to identify facilitators and barriers.

Advances in genomic medicine have evolved to include rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS) in pediatric intensive care settings. Traditionally, genetic testing was conducted in outpatient clinics, with stepwise genetic testing occurring over several years. Mentoring programs, which pair youth with caring, non-parental adults with the goal of promoting positive youth development, are an increasingly popular strategy for early intervention with at-risk youth. However, important questions remain about the extent to which these interventions improve youth outcomes. The present study involved a comprehensive meta-analysis of all outcome studies of intergenerational, one-on-one youth mentoring programs written in the English language between 1975 and 2017, using rigorous inclusion criteria designed to align with developmental theories of youth mentoring.

Youth mentoring interventions are often designed with the intention of promoting improved outcomes among marginalized youth. Despite their promise to reduce inequality through the provision of novel opportunities and increased social capital to marginalized youth, youth mentoring interventions hold the potential to reproduce rather than reduce inequality. Correlational research suggests that parents engage in more cognitive stimulation with their children when their income increases as reported by Votruba-Drzal (Journal of Marriage and Family 65:341-355, 2003). The present study uses data from an evaluation of the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), a welfare program that allows families to combine their work payments with their welfare benefits. We used the dataset in order to assess the causal impact of income on how often mothers engage their young children (N = 69) in cognitively stimulating activities.

The relationship between racial discrimination, parental functioning, and child adjustment is not well understood. The goal of the present study was to assess parental reports of discrimination in relation to depression and parenting practices, as well as on subsequent child internalizing and externalizing problems in low-income Black families. Data include a subsample of the Early Steps project, a multisite longitudinal study of financial and behaviorally at-risk families.
