Article Synopsis
  • Ortho-quinone methides (o-QMs) are reactive intermediates formed from clavatol that lead to pseudonatural products (PNPs) in fungi, which can have significant biological activities.
  • Genome mining identified a clavatol biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) in the Diaporthe sp. SYSU-MS4722 fungus, allowing for the heterologous expression of key genes in Aspergillus oryzae NSAR1, leading to the discovery of 13 new clavatol-based PNPs.
  • Structural analysis using various spectroscopic techniques confirmed the identities of these compounds, revealing several with notable anti-fibrotic activity.

Traffic violation records serve as key indicators for predicting drivers' future accidents. However, beyond statistical correlations, the underlying mechanisms linking historical traffic violations to future accidents remain inadequately understood. This study introduces a research framework to address this gap: Using Propensity Score Matching and an adapted mutual information-based feature selection algorithm to precisely identify correlations and optimal time windows between drivers' historical traffic violations and future accidents.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between perceived stress and presenteeism among geriatric caregivers in long-term care facilities (LTCFs), as well as to examine the mediating role of job burnout. A total of 272 geriatric caregivers in LTCFs were recruited. A cross-sectional survey was conducted using Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) and the Stanford Presenteeism Scale-6 (SPS-6).

Article Synopsis
  • Current kidney transplant regimens often struggle to prevent antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR) in sensitized individuals, leading to graft failure.
  • Research showed that anti-CD154 monoclonal antibody (mAb) treatment for kidney transplants in nonhuman primates was more effective at controlling rejection and post-transplant immune responses than standard tacrolimus-based therapy.
  • The anti-CD154-treated group had significantly longer survival rates, better suppression of harmful antibodies, and fewer complications post-transplant, suggesting that anti-CD154 mAbs could enhance outcomes in sensitized kidney transplant patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) involves persistent lung tissue injury and abnormal healing, with key roles played by myofibroblasts transitioning from fibroblasts and depositing extracellular matrix (ECM).
  • Research using engineered ECM micropatterns revealed that isotropic fibroblasts exhibited invasive characteristics and high expression of specific markers, while anisotropic fibroblasts adopted a more normal remodeling phenotype.
  • The study highlights how cellular topology affects fibroblast behavior and interactions with the ECM, which could contribute to worsening fibrosis and potentially create an environment that promotes cancer development.

TIMP-1 (Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinases-1) is a protein involved in regulating extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation. It is recognized as a significant biomarker for cancer diagnosis. This study aimed to develop and characterize a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) aptamer targeting human TIMP-1 protein with high affinity and specificity.

We aimed to investigate whether estrogen receptor (ER) status affects the predictive role of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) immunohistochemistry (IHC) score on the efficacy of neoadjuvant treatment for HER2-positive breast cancer. This retrospective study comprised 167 individuals diagnosed with HER2-positive invasive breast cancer who had undergone neoadjuvant treatment and surgery. Uni- and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed on the relationship between the HER2 IHC score and total pathological complete response (tpCR), breast pathological complete response (bpCR), or axillary partial response (apCR).

Purpose: To evaluate the insulin resistance in patients with menopause who were newly diagnosed with endometrial cancer and its association with disease development.

Methods: The study included 356 patients with menopause who underwent hysteroscopy at Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital between September 2013 and July 2018. Data on age, height, weight, menarche and menopausal age, pregnancies, births, and family history of tumors, hypertension, and diabetes were collected.

With advances in therapies to reduce cardiovascular events and improvements in coronary imaging, an increasing number of clinical trials have demonstrated that treatments to reduce cardiovascular events in coronary artery disease are associated with favorable effects on atherosclerotic plaque size and characteristics. It has been observed that various drugs may induce plaque regression and enhance plaque stability after plaque formation. Numerous clinical trials have been conducted to verify the occurrence of plaque stabilization and regression and their beneficial effects on cardiovascular events.

Background: Because of the limitations in new-generation drug-eluting stents (DES), treatments advocating for non-stents with a drug-coated balloon (DCB) is now of great interest. Here, we conducted a meta-analysis to testify whether a DCB was more effective and safer than a DES in treating de novo coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science to obtain high-quality trials comparing DCB with DES for the treatment of de novo CAD.

Background: The use of visceral obesity as an indicator for predicting female infertility risk has not been well established. The body roundness index (BRI) is a novel, non-invasive indicator of visceral fat; however, previous reports have not addressed the relationship between the BRI and female infertility. This study sought to fill this research gap by investigating the association between the BRI and the risk of female infertility.

The COVID-19 virus not only has significant pathogenicity but also influences the progression of many diseases, altering patient prognosis. Cardiovascular diseases, particularly aortic aneurysms, are among the most life-threatening conditions. COVID-19 infection is reported to accelerate the progression of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) and increase the risk of rupture; however, a comprehensive understanding of the underlying mechanisms remains elusive.

Introduction: While many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated the positive effects of school-based programs in reducing body fat among children and teenagers, there is no conclusive evidence to indicate that one approach is superior to another, largely due to the lack of direct and indirect comparisons. This study evaluated the relative effectiveness of various school-based obesity prevention initiatives in improving body mass index (BMI) among children and adolescents using network meta-analysis.

Methods: Searches included four databases focusing on articles published in English between the years 2002 and 2024.
