Background: To investigate the value of F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) semi-quantitative parameters, including the lesion diameter, maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), maximum standardized uptake value corrected for lean body mass (SULmax), metabolic lesion volume (MLV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG), for classifying hepatic echinococcosis.

Methods: In total, 20 patients with 36 hepatic echinococcosis lesions were included in the study. Overall, these lesions were categorized as hepatic cystic echinococcosis (HCE) or hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE) according to the pathological results.

Article Synopsis
  • Obesity is linked to cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet the preoperative cardiac risk assessment for bariatric surgery patients is lacking and their CVD incidence remains unclear.
  • A study of 1446 bariatric surgery candidates in China found a CVD incidence of 31.7% and obstructive CVD at 9.6%, revealing that those with metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO) had significantly higher rates of CVD compared to metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) patients.
  • The research indicated that having two or more components of metabolic syndrome (MetS) greatly increases the risk of CVD, with a notable correlation between the number of MetS components and increased CVD risk.

Attached microalgae cultivation coupled with wastewater treatment could convert pollutants into bioresource with high efficiency and low cost. Nitrogen to phosphorus ratio (N/P ratio) is considered as an important factor on microalgae growth. Due to spatially heterogeneous distribution of nutrient, how N/P ratio affected attached microalgae growth in both macro- and micro-scopes was explored in this study.

Background: The surgical management of Mayo III/IV tumor thrombi is difficult and risky, and robotic surgery is even more difficult. The purpose of this study was to introduce the step-by-step and orderly lowering of the height of inferior vena cava tumor thrombus, which was the core technique of robot operation for Mayo III/IV tumor thrombus.

Method: A total of 18 patients were included in this study.

Backgrounds: Retroperitoneoscopic surgery has shown advantages in urological surgery. However, its application in pancreatic surgery for neoplasm is rare. Robotic surgical system with its magnified view and flexible instruments may provide a superior alternative to conventional laparoscopic system in retroperitoneoscopic surgery.
