The integration of semiconductor quantum dots and noble metal nanoparticles can efficiently couple numerous effects corresponding to the individual domains of the hybrid system for a variety of applications. Herein, we establish a direct correlation between the electronic band structure and optical band gap of monometallic and bimetallic alloy nanoparticle decorated CdSe quantum dots, which in turn regulate the charge shuttling dynamics in a quantum dot hybrid (QDH) system. Directly coupled Au, Pd, AuPd, and CdSe QDHs were prepared a simple fabrication technique.

Human amylin forms structurally heterogeneous amyloids that have been linked to type-2 diabetes. Thus, understanding the molecular interactions governing amylin aggregation can provide mechanistic insights in its pathogenic formation. Here, we demonstrate that fibril formation of amylin is altered by synthetic amphipathic copolymer derivatives of the styrene-maleic-acid (SMAQA and SMAEA).

The prompt production of the charm baryon Λ_{c}^{+} and the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} production ratios were measured at midrapidity with the ALICE detector in pp and p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV. These new measurements show a clear decrease of the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} ratio with increasing transverse momentum (p_{T}) in both collision systems in the range 2 View Article and Find Full Text PDF

Nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain-containing protein 2 (NOD2) recognizes the muramyl dipeptide and activates the NF-κB signaling cascade following its interaction with receptor-interacting protein 2 (RIP2) via caspase recruitment domains (CARDs). The NOD2-RIP2 interaction is not understood well due to inadequate structural information. Using comparative modeling and multimicrosecond timescale molecular dynamics simulations, we have demonstrated the association of NOD2-CARDs (CARDa-CARDb) and their interaction with RIP2.

This Letter presents the first experimental evidence of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a ϕ meson. The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-ϕ⊕ p[over ¯]-ϕ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-ϕ interaction are extracted from the fully corrected correlation function employing the Lednický-Lyuboshits approach.

The availability of millions of SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2) sequences in public databases such as GISAID (Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data) and EMBL-EBI (European Molecular Biology Laboratory-European Bioinformatics Institute) (the United Kingdom) allows a detailed study of the evolution, genomic diversity, and dynamics of a virus such as never before. Here, we identify novel variants and subtypes of SARS-CoV-2 by clustering sequences in adapting methods originally designed for haplotyping intrahost viral populations. We asses our results using clustering entropy-the first time it has been used in this context.

The event-by-event correlations between three flow amplitudes are measured for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, using higher-order symmetric cumulants. We find that different three-harmonic correlations develop during the collective evolution of the medium when compared to correlations that exist in the initial state. These new results cannot be interpreted in terms of previous lower-order flow measurements since contributions from two-harmonic correlations are explicitly removed in the new observables.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ivermectin is being tested as a potential treatment for COVID-19 due to its effectiveness in reducing the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in the lab, prompting clinical trials with hospitalized patients to assess its real-world efficacy.
  • - A double-blind, randomized controlled trial administered Ivermectin at either 24 mg or 12 mg doses, or a placebo, to investigate its impact on viral load and RT-PCR test results in patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19.
  • - Results showed that while RT-PCR negativity was higher in the Ivermectin groups compared to placebo, the differences weren't statistically significant, indicating that Ivermectin did not effectively reduce viral load or improve test outcomes within the study timeframe. *

Recently, the optical remote sensing technique is effectively applied to monitor real-time water quality parameters at finer spatiotemporal scales that are mostly based on the surface reflectance of satellite images. However, during the rainy season due to cloudy or hazy satellite images, it is a great challenge to obtain the surface reflectances and to estimate the pollutant concentration. This study is specially focused on developing a novel approach to estimate the daily-scale pollutant concentrations in ungauged rivers during cloudy days.
