Objectives: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of type of delivery and anesthesia method on the screening ABR test results of newborns within the scope of the Newborn Hearing Screening Program (NHCP) and to investigate the relationship between the test results and the relevant variables.

Methods: 441 newborns were included in the study. Of these newborns, 221 constituted the control group (normal (vaginal) delivery), and 220 constituted the study group (cesarean section, delivery).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored two methods for removing rhodamine B from water: adsorption using biochar from olive stones (OSB), achieving a 97.79% removal rate, and coagulation-flocculation with FeCl, which performed best at a dosage of 2000 mg/L and pH of 2.
  • - The adsorption process using OSB was found to be spontaneous and beneficial, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 11.82 mg/g and the ability to reuse the biochar for four cycles.
  • - A combined method utilizing both coagulation-flocculation and adsorption was tested, leading to improved removal efficiency compared to either method alone, highlighting the advantages of integrating the two processes.

Article Synopsis
  • Testicular germ cell tumours (TGCT) are the most common cancers found in young men, including seminoma and non-seminoma types.
  • This study uses whole genome sequencing to analyze adult TGCTs, providing a detailed genomic profile that includes mutations, structural variations, and DNA amplifications.
  • The research uncovers correlations between genetic changes and the different growth patterns of TGCT subtypes, highlighting late genomic duplication in some cases and a common immune disruption mechanism in seminomas.

(1) Background: Acute ischemic stroke treatment has been thoroughly studied to identify strategies to reduce treatment times. However, many centers still struggle to achieve fast treatment times. Additionally, studies primarily focus on larger, more advanced centers; yet, smaller centers often face longer treatment times.

Aim: Root canal treatment (RCT) is a common procedure practiced daily by dentists worldwide. The current systematic review aimed to evaluate and compare clinical studies on the quality of root canal fillings (RCFs) carried out by dentists with different levels of experience conducted worldwide with those conducted specifically in Saudi Arabia (SA).

Materials And Methods: A full literature search was conducted in Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science, Elsevier's Scopus, Embase, CINHAL, and PubMed, without a restriction to studies published before January 2015.

(1) Background: Restoring decayed teeth in young patients can be challenging. This calls for a simplification of the protocols through new biomaterials. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the marginal adaptation delivered by restorative materials applied on class II cavities by using a simplified protocol, before and after fatigue test, followed by the assessment of the internal adaptation.

Background: In developing and developed countries, the prevalence of overweight and obesity has grown. The college phase is a critical period during which healthy behaviors are learned through lifestyle and social environment. College students are prone to increased stress, negatively affecting their daily activities and academic performance.

The development of cancer is an evolutionary process involving the sequential acquisition of genetic alterations that disrupt normal biological processes, enabling tumor cells to rapidly proliferate and eventually invade and metastasize to other tissues. We investigated the genomic evolution of prostate cancer through the application of three separate classification methods, each designed to investigate a different aspect of tumor evolution. Integrating the results revealed the existence of two distinct types of prostate cancer that arise from divergent evolutionary trajectories, designated as the Canonical and Alternative evolutionary disease types.

Background: Acute pain is a common and debilitating symptom experienced by oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer (OC/OPC) patients undergoing radiation therapy (RT). Uncontrolled pain can result in opioid overuse and increased risks of long-term opioid dependence. The specific aim of this exploratory analysis was the prediction of severe acute pain and opioid use in the acute on-treatment setting, to develop risk-stratification models for pragmatic clinical trials.

Introduction: Sickle cell syndrome (SCS) represent a real health problem. In this work, we propose to study the epidemiological and clinical features of 66 patients with SCS.

Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study carried out on a population of 66 patients with SCS, (36 S/S, 18 S/β-thalassemia, seven S/C and five S/O), over a period of two years.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines feeding tube practices in patients with oropharyngeal cancer (OPC), finding that only 27% required G-tubes, a significant decrease compared to the past.
  • - The research included a retrospective analysis of 924 patients treated at a single cancer center between 2015 and 2021, focusing on the impact of treatment methods like chemoradiation and transoral robotic surgery (TORS) on feeding tube necessity.
  • - Results indicated that patients with better baseline swallowing function and those who underwent TORS had a lower risk of G-tube placement, suggesting advancements in treatment may improve patient outcomes.

  • * A study in Yemen involving 310 dental health professionals revealed a low level of ergonomic awareness and a significant prevalence of MSDs, particularly in the neck, lower back, and shoulders.
  • * The findings highlight the need for preventive measures, such as adopting ergonomic positions, using appropriate equipment, and incorporating exercise and breaks into their work routines.

Background: Up to 80% of cases of prostate cancer present with multifocal independent tumour lesions leading to the concept of a field effect present in the normal prostate predisposing to cancer development. In the present study we applied Whole Genome DNA Sequencing (WGS) to a group of morphologically normal tissue (n = 51), including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and non-BPH samples, from men with and men without prostate cancer. We assess whether the observed genetic changes in morphologically normal tissue are linked to the development of cancer in the prostate.

Importance: Previously published work reported independent benefit of maintenance of oral intake (eat) and swallowing exercise adherence (exercise) during radiotherapy (RT) on diet and functional outcomes. The current study seeks to validate the authors' previously published findings in a large contemporary cohort of patients with oropharynx cancer (OPC) and address limitations of the prior retrospective study using prospective, validated outcome measures.

Objective: To examine the longitudinal association of oral intake and swallowing exercise using validated, clinician-graded and patient-reported outcomes.

Background and objective Hypertension (HTN) is a common disease among patients who visit primary healthcare clinics. Uncontrolled HTN is associated with increased morbidity and mortality; therefore, awareness of its risk factors and adherence to treatment can lead to better control of HTN. In this study, we aimed to determine the level of adherence to treatment and satisfaction among Saudi hypertensive patients.

Background: Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) is recommended at the initial phase for treatment of Plasmodium falciparum, to reduce morbidity and mortality in all countries where malaria is endemic. Polymorphism in portions of P. falciparum gene encoding kelch (K13)-propeller domains is associated with delayed parasite clearance after ACT.

Background: Studies have identified health care providers as an important determinant of vaccination acceptance. However, knowledge and attitudes toward vaccination have not been sufficiently studied in Saudi Arabia, especially among medical students. Therefore, we conducted this study to explore vaccination knowledge and attitudes among medical students at a large Saudi university.

Pot experiments were conducted to investigate the probable beneficial role of the individual as well as combined application of kinetin (50 μM Kn) and spermidine (200 μM Spd) on under cadmium (Cd) stress. Cd treatment reduced growth by declining the content of chlorophylls and carotenoids, photosynthesis, and gas exchange parameters. Exogenously, Kn and Spd application enhanced the photosynthetic parameters and up-regulated the antioxidant system by improving the activities of antioxidant enzymes and the content of non-enzymatic components.
