Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how pomegranate juice (PJ) could protect against the neurotoxic effects of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) exposure in rats, focusing on oxidative stress and cell death markers.
  • Exposure to CCl4 significantly increased harmful markers of oxidative stress and cell death in brain tissue, while PJ treatment notably reduced these harmful effects and cell damage.
  • The findings suggest that PJ may offer a natural protective strategy against neurodegenerative damage caused by environmental pollutants like CCl4.

In the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) guidelines, the abbreviation for therapeutic plasma exchange is standardized as TPE. However, the term PLEX (derived from PLasma EXchange), among others, is not infrequently encountered in clinical practice and in publications. Search queries were performed in PubMed using therapeutic plasma exchange, plasma exchange, "therapeutic plasma exchange," "plasma exchange," TPE plasma, PLEX plasma, PEX plasma, TPE, PLEX, and PEX.

The advent of single cell DNA sequencing revealed astonishing dynamics of genomic variability, but failed at characterizing smaller to mid size variants that on the germline level have a profound impact. In this work we discover novel dynamics in three brains utilizing single cell long-read sequencing. This provides key insights into the dynamic of the genomes of individual cells and further highlights brain specific activity of transposable elements.

Article Synopsis
  • - The article discusses the synthesis and characterization of three coordination compounds formed by ligands with copper and cadmium, identified using single crystal X-ray diffraction methods, leading to the formulas [Cu(3-aminopyridine)(NCS)], [Cu(4-aminopyridine)(NCS)], and [Cd(4-aminopyridine)(NCS)Cl].
  • - Structural analysis revealed distinct crystal arrangements: one compound exhibited a 1D structure while the others showed 3D structures, with various types of intermolecular bonding that contributed to their stability and formation.
  • - Theoretical calculations using Gaussian 03 software provided insights into the electronic properties of the compounds, predicting varying levels of kinetic stability and chemical

Article Synopsis
  • Kisspeptin is a powerful hormone that stimulates the hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, but its interaction with the stress-related hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is still unclear.
  • In a study involving male Wistar rats, various treatment groups were administered kisspeptin along with different substances to evaluate its effects on hormone levels.
  • The results showed that kisspeptin injections significantly increased levels of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone, indicating activation of the HPG axis, but did not affect the HPA axis.

In this study, we investigated the effects of peripheral nesfatin-1 on basal brain activity and 4-aminopyridine (4-AP)-induced epileptiform activity, and its relationship with the electrocorticogram (ECoG) power spectrum and EEG bands. Forty-nine male Wistar rats were divided into seven groups: control sham, 4-AP (2.5 mg/kg i.

This work introduces rationally designed, improved amphiphilic single-chain polymer nanoparticles (SCNPs) for imaging and photodynamic therapy (PDT) in zebrafish embryo xenografts. SCNPs are ultrasmall polymeric nanoparticles with sizes similar to proteins, making them ideal for biomedical applications. Amphiphilic SCNPs result from the self-assembly in water of isolated synthetic polymeric chains through intrachain hydrophobic interactions, mimicking natural biomacromolecules and, specially, proteins (in size and when loaded with drugs, metal ions or fluorophores also in function).

Objectives: This study compares the biofilm inhibition effects of denture cleaning tablets, carvacrol, and their combined use against Candida albicans on denture bases produced with different techniques. Additionally, the surface roughness and contact angles of these denture bases were evaluated.

Materials And Methods: Test samples were prepared from four different denture base materials (cold-polymerized, heat-polymerized, CAD/CAM milling, and 3D-printed).

Two different poly(benzylmalate) biopolymers, a hydrophobic non-PEGylated () and an amphiphilic PEGylated derivative (), have been used to encapsulate a phthalocyanine chosen for its substitution pattern that is highly suitable for photodynamic therapy. Different phthalocyanine/(co)polymers ratios have been used for the nanoprecipitation. A set of six nanoparticles has been obtained.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the shear bond strength (SBS) of repair material to conventionally, subtractive-, and additive-manufactured denture bases after different surface treatments.

Materials And Methods: Disk-shaped test specimens (N = 300) were prepared from denture base materials produced by one conventional (Procryla), one subtractive (Yamahachi), and one additive (Curo Denture) method. The test specimens were randomly divided into five groups (n = 10) and exposed to a variety of surface treatments-Group A: no surface treatment; Group B: grinding with silicon carbide paper; Group C: sandblasting; Group D: erbium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser; and Group E: plasma.

Kisspeptin is an important hormone involved in the stimulation of the hypothalamo-pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis. The HPG axis can be suppressed in certain conditions such as stress, which gives rise to the activation of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. However, the physiological role of kisspeptin in the interaction of HPG and HPA axis is not fully understood yet.

Alarin is a newly discovered neuropeptide that belongs to the galanin peptide family with a wide range of bioactivity in the nervous system. Its function in the brain's autonomic areas has been studied, and it has been reported that alarin is involved in the regulation of excitability in hypothalamic neurons. Its role in the regulation of excitability in the hippocampus, however, is unknown.

Phthalocyanines are tetrapyrrolic artificial porphyrinoids that play major roles in advanced biological and technological applications. Research on this family of dyes is particularly active in Türkiye, with many derivatives being prepared from 4,5-dihexylthiophthalonitrile , which is one of the most popular noncommercially available building blocks for phthalocyanines. This review summarizes the phthalocyanines and their versatile properties and applications that have been published since 1994, when the synthesis of was first described, to emphasize the importance of this building block in plentiful applications, all with biomedical or technological impact.

Aim: We aimed to clarify the clinical value of P53 index in patients with early low-risk endometrial cancer (EC) and find an optimal cut-off value of P53 index for predicting the recurrence of these patients.

Methods: The clinicopathological data of 157 patients with early low-risk EC (stage 1A with grade 1 or 2 endometrioid EC) were analyzed. The optimal cut-off value of the P53 index was calculated by the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and Youden index.
