Brown tumors are focal bone lesions, encountered in patients with uncontrolled hyperparathyroidism. They can be located in any part of the skeleton. Clinically significant lesions in the craniofacial bones are rare.

Methods: Forty-one diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) patients with no or mild retinopathy, 50 non-DPN diabetic patients with no or mild retinopathy, and 42 healthy controls without any retinal complaint were included in the study. All participants underwent detailed ophthalmic examinations.
Testicular microlithiasis (TM), a rare condition characterized by calcification within the seminiferous tubules, is associated with benign and malignant disorders of the testis. We review current practices of following up pediatric patients diagnosed TM incidentally on scrotal ultrasonography (US). We analyzed retrospectively patient characteristics, family history, indications for US, pathological features, US findings, outcome, and follow-up.

Some studies have shown that severe fibrosis and anatomical anomalies are more common in men, and subsequently, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is more difficult in male than female patients. We aimed to evaluate the effect of gender in patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy, with regard to the conversion rate, the differences in histological inflammation severity, and anatomical difficulty. We reviewed retrospectively 915 patients with symptomatic cholelithiasis who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the First Department of General Surgery at Vakif Gureba Training and Research Hospital.

PGS was performed in a total of 84 couples (87 cycles) between the period 2005 to 2015. Biopsied blastomeres from embryos on day 3 were fixed and fluorescence in situ hybridization was carried out for chromosomes 13, 16, 18, 21, 22, X and Y depending on the indication.

Summary Answer: The co-administration of GnRH agonist leuprolide acetate with cytotoxic chemotherapy agents does not preserve ovarian reserve in vitro.
What Is Known Already: Randomized controlled trials of the co-administration of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists with adjuvant chemotherapy to preserve ovarian function have shown contradictory results. This fact, together with the lack of a proven molecular mechanism of action for ovarian protection with GnRH agonist (GnRHa) places this approach as a fertility preservation strategy under scrutiny.
Objective: Coagulation and fibrinolysis defects were reported in primary hyperparathyroid patients. However, there are not enough data regarding platelet functions in this group of patients. Our aim was to evaluate the platelet functions in primary and secondary hyperparathyroid patients and to compare them with healthy subjects.

Cortical projection neurons constitute the major excitatory neuron population within the cortex and mediate long distance communication between the cortex and other brain regions. Our understanding of effector transcription factors and their downstream transcriptional programs that direct the differentiation process of cortical projection neurons is far from complete.

Background: Sclerosing stromal tumor is an extremely rare type of benign ovarian sex cord stromal tumor.
Case: The benign characteristic of this tumor is well known but we present an uncommon case of paraovarian sclerosing stromal tumor with high mitotic activity.
Results And Conclusion: Despite this potential malignancy, our patient was treated successfully with enucleation only.
Purpose: To evaluate the presence of fungi in patients with chronic anterior blepharitis with periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining of the eyelashes in addition to the conventional methods of fungal cultures and direct microscopy.
Methods: Nineteen patients with chronic anterior blepharitis of seborrheic or mixed seborrheic/staphylococcal type and 11 healthy age- and sex-matched controls were included in this prospective, nonrandomized, cross-sectional study. Blepharitis was diagnosed based on clinical evidence of greasy scales between the cilia, lid margin erythema, conjunctival hyperemia, telangiectasia, thickening, or irregularity of the eyelid margins by slit-lamp biomicroscopy.
Objectives: Dry eye is an important problem in Parkinson's disease (PD) with a potential to affect life quality. Tear osmolarity, accepted as the gold standard in dry eye diagnosis, has not been studied in this subset of patients so far. Therefore, in this study we aimed to evaluate tear osmolarity, Schirmer's test scores and tear film break-up time (TBUT) in PD patients.

The aim of this study was to assess toxic metal (Cd, Pb and Al) contamination and levels of three essential trace elements (Mn, Cr and Co) in 63 infant formulas. In addition, the levels of these metals in the study samples were compared with the acceptable limits of toxic heavy metals and the recommended daily allowances (RDAs) of essential trace elements. According to our results, the toxic metal levels measured in the formulas were within the acceptable limits, with the exception of Al levels in 8 of the 63 samples.
