Background & Aims: The liver is a vital organ responsible for numerous metabolic processes, which can be significantly impacted by long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs). These ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecules have been shown to play a crucial role in regulating gene expression, and their dysregulation has been implicated in numerous liver disorders. Our study aimed to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of plasmacytoma variant translocation-1 (PVT-1), microRNA-29a/29b (miR-29a/miR-29b), and inflammatory biomarkers [ interleukine-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and insulin growth factor-1 (IGF-1)] as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for liver cirrhosis.

Prevalence of Microscopic Colitis in Diarrhea-predominant Irittable Bowel Syndrome Patients: Cohort Study From Upper Egypt.

Background And Aim: There is controversy about colonoscopy and taking biopsy from the normal colonic mucosa in patients with a clinical diagnosis of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS). This study aims to estimate the prevalence of microscopic colitis (MC) in D-IBS patients and to select patients without the well-known alarming features who will benefit from colonoscopy and biopsies from the normal colonic mucosa.

Patients And Methods: We performed a cohort cross-sectional study over 6 months duration in a total of 129 patients with Rome III criteria of D-IBS after excluding cases with features of organic diseases.

HER2/neu is a well-established prognostic and predictive factor for invasive breast cancer. However, the role of HER2/neu in ductal breast carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is debated and recent data have suggested that it is mainly linked to in situ local recurrence. Although molecular data suggest that atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) and duct carcinoma in situ (DCIS) are related lesions, albeit with vastly different clinical implications, the role of HER2/neu expression in atypical ductal hyperplasia is not well defined either.
