Neurologic injury represents the most severe complication and is, as such, the most feared. Further complications include dural tears, peripheral neuropathy, surgical-site infections, implant-related issues, thromboembolic events, visual loss, pseudarthrosis, Crankshaft phenomenon, flatback phenomenon, proximal junctional kyphosis, and mortality.
