Chemobrain is a cognitive impairment observed in up to 75% of cancer patients treated with doxorubicin (DOX). Cognitive deficits associated with DOX are complex, and multiple interplay pathways contribute to memory impairment and the loss of concentration. Empagliflozin (EMPA), a sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor with neuroprotective potential, has recently been elucidated because of its regulatory effects on oxidative stress and neuroinflammation.

As a severe neurological disorder, Parkinson's disease (PD) is distinguished by dopaminergic neuronal degeneration in the substantia nigra (SN), culminating in motor impairments. Several studies have shown that activation of the AMPK/SIRT1/PGC1α pathway contributes to an increase in mitochondrial biogenesis and is a promising candidate for the management of PD. Furthermore, turning on the AMPK/SIRT1/PGC1α pathway causes autophagy activation, which is fundamental for maintaining neuronal homeostasis.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary malignant tumor of the liver.

Aim: This study aimed to assess serum human telomerase enzyme (hTERT) levels and their relation to the progression of liver disease. Also, it aimed to assess the effect of hepatitis C virus (HCV) core protein on memory T-cells in HCV patients with or without HCC and the correlation between memory cell phenotype and the progression of the disease in the same patients.

Depression is a widespread neuropsychiatric illness whose etiology is yet mysterious. Lactoferrin (LF), an iron-binding glycoprotein, is reported to promote neuroprotection through its role in the modulation of oxidative stress and inflammation. The objective of the present research was to evaluate the efficacy of LF against chronic restraint stress (CRS)-induced depressive behavior in rats.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the effectiveness of laser treatment for pilonidal sinus disease (PSD), highlighting its benefits over traditional surgical methods, such as less postoperative pain and quicker recovery times.
  • Involving 106 patients treated with a 1470-nm diode laser, the study compares outcomes between those treated with and without an endoscopic camera, finding no significant differences in pain, recovery, or complications.
  • Results indicate high patient satisfaction (99%) and an acceptable recurrence rate (11%), suggesting that laser treatment is a promising option for PSD, though more research on the use of endoscopic cameras is needed.

Restorative proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (RP/IPAA) is the procedure of choice for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC), some patients with colonic Crohn’s disease (CD), and those with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP); albeit, owing to its complexity, it should be performed by experienced professionals. RP/IPAA is the recommended surgical treatment for UC when the standard medical therapy is ineffective. This procedure has been demonstrated to provide patients with a good quality of life, such as in FAP patients with extensive disease in the rectum.

Minimum information models are reporting frameworks that describe the essential information that needs to be provided in a publication, so that the work can be repeated or compared to other work. In 2016, Minimum Information about Tolerogenic Antigen-Presenting cells (MITAP) was created to standardize the reporting on tolerogenic antigen-presenting cells, including tolerogenic dendritic cells (tolDCs). tolDCs is a generic term for dendritic cells that have the ability to (re-)establish immune tolerance; they have been developed as a cell therapy for autoimmune diseases or for the prevention of transplant rejection.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a serious condition resulting from liver failure, leading to changes in the central nervous system (CNS), and this study investigates the protective effects of lactoferrin (LF) against HE induced by thioacetamide (TAA) in rats.
  • The research found that LF treatment improved liver function, reduced brain ammonia levels, and enhanced cognitive and motor abilities in rats by lowering oxidative stress and inflammation markers.
  • LF's ability to modulate key signaling pathways and increase neuroprotective factors suggests it could be a potential therapeutic strategy for addressing neuroinflammation and oxidative damage in HE from acute liver injury.

Two series of new 2,1-benzothiazine derivatives have been synthesized by condensation of 4-hydrazono-1-methyl-3,4-dihydro-1-benzo[][1,2]thiazine 2,2-dioxide (5) with 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehydes and acetylthiophenes to acquire new heteroaryl ethylidenes 7(a-f) and 9(a-k) in excellent yields. After characterization by FTIR, H NMR, C NMR and elemental analyses, the newly synthesized analogues were investigated against monoamine oxidase enzymes (MAO A and MAO B). The titled compounds exhibited activity in the lower micromolar range among which 9e was the most potent compound against MAO A with IC of 1.

Introduction And Importance: Since it first surfaced, the new Coronavirus has multiplied and mutated into different forms, leading to a significant impact on people's lives. COVID-19's long-term impact is not completely known; It can only be hypothesized based on the prior outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Avascular necrosis (AVN) is one of these consequences, which if left untreated can lead to catastrophic events and bone collapse.
