Proper metabolism of the folate is crucial for maintaining DNA integrity, chromosome structure, methylation, as well as gene expression, and thus, folate is speculated to contribute to the etiology of different disorders. Since the etiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is believed to be influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, we hypothesized that functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) affecting folate metabolic pathway may have a causal role in the etiology of ASD. We analyzed three SNPs, rs2071010, rs2298444 and rs1801198 (in the folate receptor 1, folate receptor 2 and transcobalamin 2, respectively), in 867 ethnically matched subjects including 206 ASD probands and 286 controls.

cis-Prenyltransferases (cis-PTs) constitute a large family of enzymes conserved during evolution and present in all domains of life. cis-PTs catalyze the cis-1,4-polymerization of isoprene units to generate isoprenoids with carbon skeletons varying from C10 (neryl pyrophosphate) to C > 10,000 (natural rubber). Though the previously reported CPTs in Hevea are designated based on sequence variations, their classification was done mostly by phylogenetic analysis using a mixture of partial as well as full length sequences often excluding the UTRs.

To present nationally representative data on changes in the prevalences of 12-month cocaine use, cocaine use disorder (CocUD) and 12-month CocUD among 12-month cocaine users between 2001 and 2002 and 2012-2013. Data were derived from the 2001-2002 National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) and the 2012-2013 NESARC-III. Between 2001 and 2002 and 2012-2013, prevalences of 12-month cocaine use and DSM-IV CocUD significantly increased and 12-month CocUD among 12-month users significantly decreased.

Radiation-induced bystander effect (RIBE) is a poorly understood phenomenon wherein non-targeted cells exhibit effects of radiation. We have reported that cell-free chromatin (cfCh) particles that are released from dying cells can integrate into genomes of surrounding healthy cells to induce DNA damage and inflammation. This raised the possibility that RIBE might be induced by cfCh released from irradiated dying cells.

A controlled tandem synthetic route to azines from various alcohols and hydrazine hydrate by the use of a Ni(II) complex of 2,6-bis(phenylazo)pyridine as a catalyst is reported. In marked contrast to the previous report, the reaction is operative using an earth-abundant metal catalyst, milder reaction conditions, and aerobic conditions, which though are desirable but unprecedented in the literature. The catalytic reaction has a vast substrate scope including a single-step synthesis of phthalazine from 1,2-benzenedimethanol and hydrazine hydrate via intramolecular coupling.

Heterografting induced intraclonal epigenetic variations were detected among rubber plants. Interaction between genetically divergent root stock and scion tissues might have triggered these epigenetic changes which may eventually lead to intraclonal variability in rubber. A Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, slightly halotolerant, nitrate-reducing bacterial strain, designated ET03, was isolated from the cast of an earthworm (Eisenia fetida) reared at the Centre of Floriculture and Agribusiness Management, University of North Bengal at Siliguri, West Bengal, India. In bivalve mollusks, circulating hemocyte mediated phagocytosis is one of the primary ways to eliminate invading microbes. Here, we have identified one CgLRFN (leucine-rich repeat and fibronectin type-III domain-containing protein) in the Crassostrea gigas as a novel transmembrane LRR (Leucine-rich repeat) domain containing protein in C. gigas, homologous to the jawless fish VLR protein, that plays an important role in recognizing bacteria and promoting hemocytic phagocytosis.
