Antifungal therapy in the management of fungal secondary infections in COVID-19 patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objectives: The prevalence of fungal secondary infections among COVID-19 patients and efficacy of antifungal therapy used in such patients is still unknown. Hence, we conducted this study to find the prevalence of fungal secondary infections among COVID-19 patients and patient outcomes in terms of recovery or all-cause mortality following antifungal therapy (AFT) in such patients.

Methods: We performed a comprehensive literature search in PubMed®, Scopus®, Web of Sciences™, The Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrial.

Computer vision syndrome, musculoskeletal, and stress-related problems among visual display terminal users in Nepal.

Background: The use of computers and other Visual Display Terminal (VDT) screens is increasing in Nepal. However, there is a paucity of evidence on the prevalence of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) and other occupational health concerns among employees working in front of VDT screens in the Nepalese population.

Objectives: This study aims to estimate the prevalence of CVS, musculoskeletal and work-related stress among VDT screen users in the office, as well as their understanding and usage of preventive measures.

Recent advances in CE-MS include small, chip-based CE systems coupled with nanoelectrospray ionization (nanoESI) to provide rapid, high-resolution analysis of biological specimens.

Clinico-pathological characteristics of obstructing colorectal cancer and its management outcomes at a tertiary referral center of Eastern Nepal.

Background: The aim of this study is to explore the treatment strategies being followed for patients with obstructing colorectal cancer (OCRC) at our institute and to know the management outcomes.

Methods: This study included 28 patients who were diagnosed with obstructing colorectal cancer (OCRC) either preoperatively or intraoperatively over a period of 5 years.

Results: Most were in the younger age group with mean age of 49.

Role of CPXM1 in Impaired Glucose Metabolism and Ovarian Dysfunction in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common female endocrinopathy associated with both reproductive and metabolic disorders, has an unclear etiology and unsatisfactory management methods. Carboxypeptidase X, M14 family member 1 (CPXM1) is a protein involved in follicular atresia, insulin production, and adipose tissue production, though its role in PCOS is not fully understood. We used a 60% high-fat diet (HFD) plus dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)-induced PCOS mouse model to determine the role of CPXM1 in abnormal glucose metabolism and ovarian dysfunction in PCOS.

Effect of Preexisting Asthma on the Risk of ICU Admission, Intubation, and Death from COVID-19: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifies asthma as a comorbidity in COVID-19 that increases the risk of severity and death. However, research has shown that asthma is not associated with increased severity and death, thus making the consequences of asthma in COVID-19 unclear.

Methods: We searched the electronic databases PubMed, WHO COVID-19 database, and Taylor and Francis Online for studies that compared the medical outcomes of COVID-19 between patients with and without asthma, from the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 in December 2019 to the 3 of September 2021, excluded duplicates, reviews, editorials, and case reports, and screened the titles, abstracts, and full texts.

Rheumatic Heart Disease among Patients with Valvular Heart Disease Admitted to the In-patient Department of a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.

Introduction: Valvular heart disease continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality around the world, with rheumatic heart disease accounting for the bulk of cases in developing nations. The aim of this study is to find out the prevalence of rheumatic heart disease among patients with valvular heart disease admitted to the in-patient department of a tertiary care centre.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from December, 2018 to December, 2020 at a tertiary care centre after receiving ethical approval from the Institutional Review [Reference number: 395 (6-11) e2 077/078].

Vaccination saves lives and can be an effective strategy for preventing the spread of the COVID-19, but negative attitudes towards vaccines lead to vaccine hesitancy. This study aimed to explore the factors influencing the uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Nepali community in the United Kingdom (UK). This qualitative study included in-depth interviews with 20 people from Nepal living in the UK.

Late onset ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in patient with COVID-19: A case report from Nepal.

Introduction: Although pulmonary consequences are less common in COVID-19 than cardiac issues, it is critical to understand the cause of probable cardiac complications and put the patient on constant watch, especially if they have risk factors such as diabetes mellitus.

Case Presentation: Here, we report a case of 82-years old male with ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) that was developed as a complication of COVID-19.

Discussion: COVID-19 is now known to cause cardiovascular issues such as myocardial damage, heart failure, arrhythmia, and venous thromboembolism.

Space- and Time-Resolved Metabolomics of a High-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer Mouse Model.

The dismally low survival rate of ovarian cancer patients diagnosed with high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) emphasizes the lack of effective screening strategies. One major obstacle is the limited knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of HGSC pathogenesis at very early stages. Research Question: What is the expression pattern of inflammatory mRNA profiles of a dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) plus high-fat diet (HFD)-induced polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) mouse model?

Design: RNA sequencing was performed to investigate the mRNA expression profiles in the ovarian tissues of a DHEA plus HFD-induced PCOS mouse model. Six samples were divided into two groups (control and PCOS), with three biological replicates in each group. This was followed by hierarchical clustering, gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analyses.

Anxiety and Depression among Hypertensive Adults in Tertiary Care Hospitals of Nepal.

Introduction: Cooccurrence of hypertension and depression/anxiety increases the chance of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Therefore, this study is aimed at assessing the prevalence of anxiety and depression and their association with hypertension among hypertensive adults in a tertiary care hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a semistructured self-administered questionnaire based on Hamilton Anxiety and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale.

Introduction: Acute pesticide poisoning is a significant global public health issue that contributes to one of the leading causes of emergency department visits. There is no national data on the incidence of acute pesticide poisoning or the pesticides that cause deaths. The purpose of this study is to find the prevalence of pesticide poisoning among patients who presented to the emergency department with acute poisoning.

Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus has affected millions all over the world and has been declared pandemic, as of 11 March 2020. In addition to the ongoing research and development of vaccines, there is still a dire need for safe and effective drugs for the control and treatment against the SARS-CoV-2 virus infection. Numerous repurposed drugs are under clinical investigations whose reported adverse events can raise worries about their safety.

Cherubism (CBM), characterized by expansile jawbones with multilocular fibrocystic lesions, is caused by gain-of-function mutations in SH3 domain-binding protein 2 (; mouse orthologue ). Loss of jawbone and dental integrity significantly decrease the quality of life for affected children. Treatment for CBM is limited to multiple surgeries to correct facial deformities.
