Background Obesity has long been a severe threat to public health as an epidemic, and studies on its pathogenesis and treatment have been ongoing. Our study aims to compare the serum levels of bone morphogenetic protein 1 (BMP1), neuregulin 4 (NRG4), and apolipoprotein A5 (ApoA5) in obese and non-obese individuals and investigate their association with obesity. Methodology Our study included a total of 111 participants, of whom 46 were obese (body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m), aged 18-65 years, and had no comorbidities, and 65 were non-obese (BMI = 18.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) on patients with oligometastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) and its impact on survival and local control rates.
  • A total of 388 patients with up to 5 metastatic lesions were analyzed, showing that most had previously undergone surgery and had limited organ involvement, with median follow-up of about 30.7 months.
  • Results indicated that higher SBRT doses (≥100 Gy) significantly improved local control, progression-free survival, and overall survival rates, highlighting SBRT as a promising treatment for metastatic CRC.

Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer in our country and worldwide, and it is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. According to the latest global cancer statistics, lung cancer was identified as the second most common type of cancer, and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a highly heterogeneous class of RNA molecules sharing many characteristics with mRNAs, except for the protein-coding potential.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of serum glypican-6 (GPC-6) levels and the combination of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-ProBNP) and GPC-6 in the diagnosis of heart failure (HF).

Methods: In this prospective study, patients older than 18 years of age, admitted to the emergency department of our hospital between December 2021 and April 2022, diagnosed with heart failure (patient group), and healthy volunteers with similar sociodemographic characteristics (control group) were included. The disease severity classification of the patient group was made according to the 2021 ESC guidelines, using echocardiographic findings.

Background: The risks added by extended jugular lymphatic sacs (EJLS) to increased nuchal translucency (NT) including genetic and structural abnormalities and pregnancy outcomes have not been previously investigated, which this study aims to investigate.

Methods: The data of 155 singleton pregnancies with increased fetal NT (≥95 percentile) of these 20 with fetal EJLS were evaluated retrospectively. Patients were stratified according to NT thickness such that ≥95 percentile - 3.

Radiation therapy (RT) is typically applied using one of two standard approaches for preoperative treatment of resectable locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC): short-course RT (SC-RT) alone or long-course RT (LC-RT) with concurrent fluorouracil (5-FU) chemotherapy. The Phase II single-arm KROG 11-02 study using intermediate-course (IC) (33 Gy (Gray)/10 fr (fraction) with concurrent capecitabine) preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) demonstrated a pathologically complete response rate and a sphincter-sparing rate that were close to those of LC-CRT. The current trial aim to compare the pathological/oncological outcomes, toxicity, and quality of life results of LC-CRT and IC-CRT in cases of LARC.

Objective: Spinal metastases may only affect the bone tissue and result in spinal instability or may additionally result in epidural compression, leading to neurological deficits. Surgery has emerged as a popular method in treating metastatic epidural spinal cord compression (MESCC) due to the advances in surgical techniques and instrumentation. In this study, we evaluated patients with MESCC regarding neurological status, pain status, and survival rates, and presented our experience managing MESCC.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a systemic disease which causes an increased inclination to thrombosis by leading to coagulation system activation and endothelial dysfunction. Our objective in this study is to determine whether ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) can be used as a new marker in patients with COVID-19 for evaluating the increased coagulation risk, pneumonic infiltration, and thus, prognosis.

Methods: Our study included 59 patients with COVID-19 compatible pneumonic infiltration on lung computed tomography (CT) who applied to and were hospitalized in the Internal Diseases Outpatient Clinic, then followed up and treated, as well as 29 healthy individuals with a negative COVID-19 rRT-PCR test without any additional disease.

Preclinical models are required to study individual therapy responses to improve all cancer treatments, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patient-derived explants (PDEs) culture model is of great importance in terms of the possibility of tumor cell culture with the microenvironment, and the development of molecular mechanisms and personalized treatment methods. In our study, primary tumor culture with microenvironment was performed using different methods from tumor tissues obtained from 51 patients with NSCLC.

The aim of this study was to examine the prognostic factors and treatment outcomes of cervical esophageal carcinoma (CEC) patients who underwent definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT). The clinical data of 175 biopsy-confirmed CEC patients treated with definitive CRT between April 2005 and September 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The prognostic factors predicting overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) were assessed in uni- and multivariable analyses.

Castleman disease (CD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder with distinct clinical subtypes. However, our understanding of the underlying pathogenesis of particular subtypes of CD remains unclear. While the characteristic morphologic changes within UCD, including occasional cases of overgrowth of spindled stromal and follicular dendritic cells have been described, the nature and origin of these spindle cells remain elusive.
