Anaerobic bacteria are rare but important cause of otogenic brain abscess. Improved patient management techniques and early clinical and laboratory diagnosis of otogenic infections are necessary to reduce the risk of intracranial complications. Here we present a case of recurrent pyogenic brain abscess caused by Bacteroides fragilis secondary to otitis media.

Facial cutaneous phaeohyphomycosis in an immunocompetent individual.

Fungal infection is a rare condition in immunocompetent individuals, and it is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. We report on a case of cutaneous phaeohyphomycosis in healthy 25-year-old man. Based on the clinical findings, the case was first thought to be cervico-facial actinomycosis, but Alternaria was identified on the culture after debridement.

Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) emerged as a pandemic with varied clinical presentations. Patients with an underlying comorbidity such as diabetes and chronic kidney diseases (CKDs) had an increased risk of developing secondary bacterial and fungal coinfections which was further accentuated by the use of steroids during the management and with prolonged intensive care unit stay. This case series describes the clinical course of two patients with CKD who developed acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 infection and mucormycosis.

Immunophenotypic expression and immunomodulation in minimal residual disease analysis of pediatric B acute lymphoblastic leukemia by high sensitive flow cytometry.

The major challenge in minimal residual disease MRD) detection is the antigen modulation in post treated samples restraining the use of diagnostic immunophenotypic (IP) signature of leukemic blasts for MRD detection. The IP expression of 10 antigens in 167 children diagnosed as B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia B-ALL) in comparison to hematogones and the extent of immunomodulation in 60 post treated MRD positive cases were studied. Upregulation was the predictable shift noted in antigens like CD73, CD86, CD19, CD20 and CD45 which was statistically significant for all except CD45.
