Article Synopsis
  • Two peach rootstocks, 'Guardian' and 'MP-29', and ten winter cover crops were tested in a greenhouse to assess how well they host ring nematode, with results showing a wide range of host suitability.
  • 'Guardian' was previously thought to tolerate ring nematode, but findings suggest this may not be accurate, while 'MP-29' was identified as a strong host.
  • Wheat showed the least host suitability, whereas Austrian winter pea had the highest reproduction rates for nematodes, indicating the potential benefits of planting non-host cover crops in peach orchards for nematode suppression and improved soil health.

Article Synopsis
  • Amyloidosis is a condition where misfolded proteins deposit in the body, notably affecting the skin of individuals from the Asian subcontinent, leading to a subtype known as Primary Cutaneous Amyloidosis (PCA).
  • This study focuses on identifying and confirming the dermoscopic features of two types of PCA—Macular Amyloidosis (MA) and Papular Amyloidosis (PA)—in 42 patients, primarily of skin color from a government hospital in Southeast Asia.
  • Using a specialized dermoscope, researchers documented the typical characteristics of PCA to aid in accurate diagnosis without resorting to invasive biopsies, which is especially important in settings with limited healthcare resources.

Greenhouse experiments were conducted to determine the host suitability of ten summer cover crops and two peach rootstocks to by inoculating them with 10,000 eggs. Brown top millet and sunn hemp were nonhosts as they did not support nematode reproduction. Buckwheat, cowpea, pearl millet, Japanese millet, and sunflower supported more than 25,000 eggs/pot, which indicated that these crops are good hosts to .
