A novel ruthenium(III)-pyrimidine Schiff base was synthesized and characterized using different analytical and spectroscopic techniques. Molecular geometries of the ligand and ruthenium complex were investigated using the DFT-B3LYP level of theory. The quantum global reactivity descriptors were also calculated.

Article Synopsis
  • l-Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) is a key enzyme involved in polyamine synthesis in humans and fungi, which can be overactivated by tumor-promoting factors.
  • Forty fungal isolates were screened for their ability to produce ODC, with one isolate identified as the most potent producer, and its enzyme was purified and characterized, revealing important kinetic properties.
  • ODC activity was significantly inhibited by compounds like DFMO and curcumin, highlighting curcumin's potential as a strong inhibitor and prompting further studies on its mechanism of action.
