Article Synopsis
  • Stroke is a leading cause of death, and this study examined its impact on older adults, particularly focusing on their daily activities and related health conditions.
  • Data from 1,165 older adults who had strokes were analyzed to assess the relationship between stroke, comorbidities (like diabetes and depression), and difficulties with daily living tasks.
  • Findings showed that diabetes and depression significantly hindered daily activities like dressing and walking, while heart conditions had less impact; this information can help healthcare providers create better interventions for affected individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • Anti-leucine-rich glioma-inactivated 1 encephalitis is a recently identified condition marked by faciobrachial dystonic seizures and various subacute symptoms, including mood changes and memory loss, necessitating differentiation from psychogenic nonepileptic seizures.
  • Two case studies of young Iranian females illustrate differing symptom severity and brain region involvement, with one experiencing neuropsychiatric symptoms and another facing severe memory decline, both requiring prompt immunotherapy due to refractory symptoms.
  • Early treatment leads to a favorable prognosis, but challenges like treatment resistance and relapses underline the importance of developing reliable biomarkers for better management and outcome prediction.

Introduction/aims: Objective outcome measures to monitor treatment response and guide treatment are lacking in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). In this study we aimed to evaluate the motor unit number index (MUNIX) as an outcome measurement in patients with CIDP and determine the correlation of MUNIX with functional and standard electrodiagnostic tests in a single follow-up study.

Methods: We evaluated MUNIX of the abductor pollicis brevis, abductor digiti minimi, and tibialis anterior (TA) muscles bilaterally.
