This study investigated the performance of various spectrophotometric methods in predicting visually perceived translucency and evaluated the efficiency of imaging techniques in quantifying translucency. We conducted the visual assessment in two stages using the pair comparison method. In the first stage, pairs of samples with identical colors but differing levels of translucency were compared.

Background: Masking dark tooth structure or darkness of oral cavity with ceramic restorations is an important concern. The aim of this study was to determine the minimum thickness of a multilayer all-ceramic restoration (IPS-emax Press) required for a proper masking in these situations.

Materials And Methods: In this experimental study, 36 multilayer ceramic disks of IPS e.

In this study, a π-conjugated organic compound based on distyrylbenzenes contains an amino substituent (as an electron-donor group) and a sulfone moiety (as an electron-withdrawing group) was investigated in the viewpoint of solvatochromism effects and the possibility of pH-sensitivity. This fluorescence dye (2-(ethyl(4-((E)-4-((E)-4-(methylsulfonyl)styryl)styryl)phenyl)amino)ethan-1-ol, ASDSB) showed Uv-Vis absorption in the range of 377-407 nm with high molar extinction coefficients (ε = 0.05 × 10-1.

Almost all modern color difference equations have been developed based on partitioning the value of color difference into the difference of three perceptual color attributes, i.e., hue, chroma, and lightness.

In recent years, various surface roughness measurement methods have been proposed as alternatives to the commonly used stylus profilometry, which is a low-speed, destructive, expensive but precise method. In this study, a novel method, called "image profilometry," has been introduced for nondestructive, fast, and low-cost surface roughness measurement of randomly rough metallic samples based on image processing and machine vision. The impacts of influential parameters such as image resolution and filtering approach for elimination of the long wavelength surface undulations on the accuracy of the image profilometry results have been comprehensively investigated.

The growing industrialization has emphasized the need for high-performance computer-based inspection methods. Here, we investigated the performance of four major computer-based texture characterization methods in the prediction of visually perceived and actual surface coarseness of real materials. Gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM), distance-dependent edge frequency (DDEF), fractal dimension (FD), and histogram skewness (SK) were used as the methods.

Background: Although studies have shown that porcelain veneers are very efficient for treating discolored teeth, they did not address in particular the minimum thickness of a multilayer IPS e.max Press (IvoclarVivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) restoration required to mask discolored tooth. The aim of this study was to determine the minimum thickness of a multilayer porcelain restoration required for masking severe tooth discoloration.
