The Accuracy of the S100B Protein Biomarker in the Prognosis of Patients with Acute Spinal Cord Injury.

 The role of some biomarkers such as S100 beta (S100B) has been somewhat known in determining the severity of primary acute spinal cord injury (SCI), and today, it has been the basis of various relevant studies. Therefore, this study estimates the S100B level in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in patients with spinal injuries.  This was a descriptive-analytic study.

Anterior cervical spine surgery opens up concerns about thyroid function.

Background And Objectives: The anterior approach for cervical discectomy and fixation is a valuable procedure for decompression of the spinal cord in patients with severe canal stenosis and stabilization of cervical vertebral column. Although some studies have investigated the thyroid complications especially in cervical cancer surgery or recently in tracheostomy, little research has been performed on the anterior spine surgery so far. The present study aimed to evaluate possible changes in the thyroid in patients experiencing anterior cervical approaches for degenerative diseases.

Placebo-controlled trial of oral amantadine and zolpidem efficacy on the outcome of patients with acute severe traumatic brain injury and diffuse axonal injury.

Background: A constituent of diffuse axonal injury (DAI) is supposed to be present in about 1/3 of all severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) as specified by pathologic documents. Diffuse axonal injury is categorized by extensive injury to axons in the brain. A rise in the incidences of TBI, and the limited study to verified effect of drugs like amantadine and zolpidem in improving the consciousness levels of patients with acute traumatic brain injury with axonal injury enthused us to initiate this study in the acute TBI patients.

Anterior sacral meningocele complicated by rectothecal fistula and rectorrhea: A Case report and review of the literature.

Background: Anterior sacral meningocele (ASM) is a rare congenital anomaly. It is characterized by herniation of the dura through a defect in the anterior sacrum. Rarely, however, it may extend to the rectal area through a rectothecal fistula with or without rectorrhea.

Relationship Between Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings and Clinical Symptoms in Patients with Suspected Lumbar Spinal Canal Stenosis: a Case-control Study.

Introduction: Despite the availability of many imaging and clinical criteria for diagnosis of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS), its correct diagnosis is a challenge for clinicians and radiologists.

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and clinical symptoms in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with suspected LSS in MRI.

Methods: This study is a case-control study.

Remote Paraparesis due to a Traumatic Extradural Arachnoid Cyst Developing 2 Years after Brachial Plexus Root Avulsion Injury: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Traumatic extradural arachnoid cyst is a rare entity. However, late appearance of paraparesis due to formation of an extradural arachnoid cyst as a sequel of brachial plexus injury is extremely rare and the literature regarding this issue is scarce revealing only 11 cases. Herein, we report a patient with delayed progressive spastic paraparesis appearing after a multilevel brachial plexus root avulsion injury where imaging revealed formation of a large traumatic extradural arachnoid cyst at the cervicothoracic region.
