Coinage metal(I) clusters supported by a 1,10-phenanthroline-phosphine: orange-to-NIR phosphorescence, metallophilic interactions and enhanced cytotoxicity.

A series of small coinage metal(I) clusters has been selectively synthesized using 2-(diphenylphosphino)-1,10-phenanthroline (L), a new promising dimetal-binding -ligand (L). Its reaction with CuI yields the complex [CuL(μ-I)][CuI], while the treatment of L with Au(tht)Cl/Ag or Au(tht)Cl/Cu systems leads to the assembly of [AuAgLCl], [AuCuLCl], [CuAuL] and [AgAuL] clusters. Theoretical analysis revealed pronounced intermetallic close shell interactions in these di- and trinuclear ensembles.

Copper-Containing Bionanocomposites Based on Natural Raw Arabinogalactan as Effective Vegetation Stimulators and Agents against Phytopathogens.

Novel copper-containing bionanocomposites based on the natural raw arabinogalactan have been obtained as universal effective agents against phytopathogen and development stimulants of agricultural plants. Thus, the use of such nanosystems offers a solution to the tasks set in biotechnology while maintaining high environmental standards using non-toxic, biocompatible, and biodegradable natural biopolymers. The physicochemical characteristics of nanocomposites were determined using a number of analytical methods (elemental analysis, transmission electron microscopy and spectroscopic parameters of electron paramagnetic resonance, UV-visible, etc.

Fast and reversible solvent-vapor-induced 1D to 2D transformation in emissive Ag(I)-organic networks.

We report here an unprecedentedly fast and reversible transformation between 1D and 2D MOFs/CPs induced through organic solvent vapours. The transformations occur at room temperature in just 15-20 min, accompanied by a significant change in the observed phosphorescence. These findings provide a new insight into the design of luminescent networks with stimuli-switchable dimensionality.

Widened retinal arteriolar and venular diameters are not an endophenotype of schizophrenia: A one-time cross-sectional study.

Objectives: Studies of schizophrenia endophenotypes may help clinicians better understand the etiopathogenesis and treatment of this mental disorder. The aim of the study was to determine if retinal arteriolar or venular abnormalities are an endophenotype of schizophrenia.

Design: We performed a one-time cross-sectional study.

Retinal microvascular abnormalities in major depression.

Background: The aim of our study was to find a possible association between retinal microvascular abnormality and major depression in a non-geriatric population.

Method: The participants with major depression were hospitalised at the University Hospital in Hradec Kralove, Department of Psychiatry. Retinal images were obtained using a stationary Fundus camera FF450 by Zeiss and a hand-held camera by oDocs.

Tris(2-Pyridyl)Arsine as a New Platform for Design of Luminescent Cu(I) and Ag(I) Complexes.

The coordination behavior of tris(2-pyridyl)arsine (PyAs) has been studied for the first time on the example of the reactions with CuI, CuBr and AgClO. When treated with CuI in CHCl medium, PyAs unexpectedly affords the scorpionate complex [Cu(PyAs)I]∙CHCl only, while this reaction in MeCN selectively leads to the dimer [Cu(PyAs)I]. At the same time, the interaction of CuBr with PyAs exclusively gives the dimer [Cu(PyAs)Br].

The Interface Between Psychiatry and Ophthalmology.

Objective: The aim of this article is to review the interface between psychiatry and ophthalmology at several levels, such as the influence of psychopharmacology on eye disorders, the occurrence of psychiatric symptoms in eye diseases, and the neuroophthalmological examination methods supporting the validity of psychiatric diagnoses.

Materials And Methods: We searched the PubMed computer database for the key words "Psychiatry" and "Ophthalmology" on the 28th of August, 2018 to obtain relevant articles which were consequently summarized.

Results: The results showed that most patients with ocular disease simultaneously have one or more psychiatric symptoms.

1,2,4-Oxadiazole/2-Imidazoline Hybrids: Multi-target-directed Compounds for the Treatment of Infectious Diseases and Cancer.

Replacement of amide moiety with the 1,2,4-oxadiazole core in the scaffold of recently reported efflux pump inhibitors afforded a novel series of oxadiazole/2-imidazoline hybrids. The latter compounds exhibited promising antibacterial activity on both Gram-positive (, ) and Gram-negative (, ) strains. Furthermore, selected compounds markedly inhibited the growth of certain drug-resistant bacteria.

Retinal abnormatilites as a diagnostic or prognostic marker of schizophrenia.

The review is a summary of structural and functional changes in the human retina observed in patients with schizophrenia. The main focus is on the potential of these changes to serve as schizophrenia-specific biomarkers accessible to clinicians. We identified three features of the retina that can be detected non-invasively in humans and which appear to show charateristic changes in schizophrenia: (1) retinal microvasculature displaying abnormally wide venules; (2) electroretinograms indicating altered function of photoreceptors or other cells in the retinal component of the visual pathway; (3) optical coherence tomography pointing to structural differences between the retinae of patients with schizophrenia and those of healthy volunteers.

[Fibrinogen/fibrin-specific enzymes from copperhead (Agkistrodon halys halys) and cobra (Naja oxiana eichwald) snake venoms].

Ability of fractions of cobra's (Naja oxiana Eichwald) and copperhead snake's (Agkistrodon halys halys) venoms to hydrolyze fibrinogen/fibrin was studied. In cobra's snake a component with molecular mass of nearly 60 kDa was found to hydrolyze a-chain of fibrinogen but failed to hydrolyze casein/azocasein and fibrin. A fibrinogen-specific metalloproteinase, the enzyme was inhibited by EDTA.

[Posttraumatic epilepsy: diagnosis and clinical variety].

125 patients with posttraumatic epilepsy (PTE) were examined using methods of neurovisualization (CT and MRI) and electroencephalography (EEG), including brain mapped EEG. The research resulted in the conclusion about heterogeneity of the disease. Differential diagnostic criteria were elaborated for three clinical variations of symptomatic epilepsy of the traumatic genesis.

[Blood coagulating properties of the copperhead Agkisrodon halys halys venom and its thrombin-like fractions].

Venom and its fraction with hemocoagulation properties from Agkistrodon halys halys exhibited dissimilar effects on blood plasma and fibrinogen preparation. The major component of this fraction proved to be a thrombin-like enzyme, properties of which were studied by means of several coagulation tests. Dissimilarity in coagulating effects of the venom and its thrombin-like fraction as well as different physical properties of blood clots formed after their action suggest that the venom from Agkistrodon halys halys contained other protein factors affecting blood coagulation besides the thrombin-like proteases.

[The use of Soviet substitutes for batroxobin in the determination of fibrinogen].

Plasma fibrinogen was measured by kinetic photometry with two Soviet analogs of the foreign agent batroxobin: ancistron-N and agichal, obtained from Central Asian Aspidelaps lubricus venom by different techniques. Both the preparations of thrombin-like enzyme from the venom have proved to be adequate substituents of batroxobin; the optimal concentration of ancistron-N for this test was found to be 20 micrograms/ml or 0.04 U/ml, that of agichal 0.

[Effect of a "direct" hemolytic factor and phospholipse A2 from Middle-Asian cobra venom on erythrocytes].

The effect of "direct" hemolytic factor (DHF) and phospholipase A2, isolated and purifed from Middle-Asian cobra venom on human erythrocytes is studied. DHF is found to increase the hemolytic effect of phospholipase A2 Ca2+ ions inhibit the hemolytic effect of DHF, but they increase the hemolysis in the presence of DHF and phospholipse A2. Heparin re moves the increasing effect of DHF.
