Background: Depression is prevalent among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing dialysis, with significant implications for their quality of life and treatment compliance. Traditional treatments for depression, including various therapies and pharmacological interventions, have limitations due to their adverse effects. Sertraline, a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI), offers a promising alternative, but its efficacy and safety in this population require thorough evaluation.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists studied how iron (Fe) behaves in dust and pollution particles in the air and its effect on climate.
  • They found that the amounts of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) in coal ash were more than in dust from Arizona.
  • The rate of iron dissolving changed depending on the levels of Ca and Mg, increasing until they made up more than 50% of the mix, after which it slowed down.

The challenge in front of EDLC device is their low energy density compared to their battery counter parts. In the current study, a green plasticized nanocomposite sodium ion conducting polymer blend electrolytes (PNSPBE) was developed by incorporating plasticized Chitosan (CS) blended with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), doped with NaBr salt with various concentration of CaTiO nanoparticles. The most optimized PNSPBE film was subsequently utilized in an EDLC device to evaluate its effectiveness both as an electrolyte and a separator.

Introduction: The Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) is a vital source of new drug safety information, but whether adverse event (AE) information collected from these systems adequately captures experiences of the overall United States (US) population is unknown.

Objective: To examine determinants of consumer AE reporting in the USA.

Methods: Five-year AE reporting rate per 100,000 residents per US county were calculated, mapped, and quartiled for AE reports received directly from consumers between 2011 and 2015.

Ginseng has long been widely used for its therapeutic potential. In our current study, we investigated the impact of abiotic stress induced by infrared (IR) radiations and sodium silicate on the upregulation of antioxidant and anti-tyrosinase levels, as well as the total phenolic and total flavonoid contents of the Korean ginseng ( C.A.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the clinical profiles of 130 patients with acute rheumatic fever (ARF) over a period from August 2019 to March 2022, using the Revised Jones Criteria 2015, which emphasizes echocardiography and considers polyarthralgia and monoarthritis as major criteria for high-risk groups.
  • Findings showed that carditis was the most common symptom (93.8%), with other symptoms including polyarthralgia (35.4%) and monoarthritis (7.7%). Notably, monoarthralgia was more prevalent in first episodes of ARF.
  • Results indicated significant variations in ARF clinical presentations across populations; in recurrent ARF, carditis and congestive cardiac failure occurred more

Korean ginseng is a source of functional foods and medicines; however, its productivity is hindered by abiotic stress factors, such as light. This study investigated the impacts of darkness and different light wavelengths on the metabolomics and anti-cancer activity of ginseng extracts. Hydroponically-grown Korean ginseng was shifted to a light-emitting diodes (LEDs) chamber for blue-LED and darkness treatments, while white fluorescent (FL) light treatment was the control.
