Aims: Lewis antigen plays an important role in the progression of gastric cancer (GC), FUT3 is a key enzyme in the synthesis of Lewis antigen, but the molecular mechanism of its promotion of GC progression remains unclear.

Main Methods: We used Lea-antibody capturing coupled with mass spectrometry to identify the target proteins of FUT3, immunofluorescence (IF), molecular biology and cell function experiments were conducted to clarify the molecular mechanism of FUT3 promoting the migration and invasion of GC cells by regulating Lea glycosylation on ITGA6 and GLG1.

Key Findings: FUT3 promote migration and invasion of GC cells.

Here, we report the complete genome sequence of deformed wing virus (DWV) isolated from honeybees ( L.) in Iraq, named the Tikrit isolate. The phylogeny revealed that the Tikrit isolate has a close relationship to the Iraqi isolate DWV-Iraq-2023 and related to isolates from France, the United Kingdom, and Israel.

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks provide flexible and reliable communication among low-power sensor-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) devices, enabling them to communicate in a flexible and robust manner. Nonetheless, the majority of existing BLE-based mesh protocols operate as flooding-based piconet or scatternet overlays on top of existing Bluetooth star topologies. In contrast, the Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol used primarily in wireless ad hoc networks (WAHNs) is forwarding-based and therefore more efficient, with lower overheads.

Background: Pakistan faces a significant burden of oral diseases, which can be effectively reduced through preventive measures. Dentistry in Pakistan predominantly focuses on corrective dental procedures, increasing the treatment costs and widens disparities in oral healthcare access. To address this gap and meet the country's oral health needs, Aga Khan University initiated a Dental Hygiene program aimed to expand and diversify the oral health workforce and improving access to quality care in various healthcare settings.

Recent studies indicate that Glypican 1 (GPC-1) is aberrantly expressed and plays a key role in certain cancers, but little is known in the hepatocellular carcinoma. Raw data from TCGA, GTEx and TIMER databases were utilized to comprehensively analyze GPC-1 expression landscape in pan-cancer, and the biological function of GPC-1 was investigated in liver cancer cells. The results revealed that GPC-1 is highly expressed in HCC, negatively correlated with survival, and also positively correlated with immune infiltration and clinical stage.

Periodontal instrument fractures are rare events in dentistry, with limited literature available on their occurrence and management. This case report highlights an incident involving the fracture of a periodontal sickle scaler blade during manual instrumentation for the removal of calculus. The fracture occurred during instrumentation on the mesial surface of the maxillary right second molar, and the separated blade was subsequently pushed into the sulcus.

The study evaluated the position of gingival margins in anterior teeth using clinical and 3-dimensional (3D) optical scanning method among patients subjected to non surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT). A single arm, longitudinal study was undertaken at the Archway Dental Center, University of Manchester, UK. History and clinical examination were done.

Background: Probiotics are viable microorganisms, which if delivered in appropriate dose can provide health benefits. Lactobacillus reuteri (DM17938+ATCC PTA 5289) has been recommended as a safe choice for probiotics. The objective of this study is to compare the improvement in the periodontal parameters amongst smokers with generalized periodontitis with Stage III, Grade C treated with nonsurgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) to which either an antibiotics or probiotics were given as an adjuvant.

The timely detection of seizure activity in the case of newborns can help save lives. Clinical signs of seizures in newborns are difficult to observe, so, in this study, we propose an automated method of detecting seizures in newborns using multi-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) recording acquired from 36 newborns admitted to Royal Women's Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. A novel set of time-frequency marginal features are defined to detect seizure activity in newborns.

Instantaneous frequency in multi-sensor recordings is an important parameter for estimation of direction of arrival estimation, source separation, and sparse reconstruction. The instantaneous frequency estimation problem becomes challenging when signal components have close or overlapping signatures and the number of sensors is less than the number of sources. In this study, we develop a computationally efficient method that exploits the direction of the IF curve in addition to the angle of arrival as additional features for the accurate tracking of IF curves.

LC-MS/MS has recently emerged as the best practice for simultaneous analysis of 2, 4, 6 Trinitrotoluene (TNT) and its metabolites. We have developed and validated an LC-MS/MS method for simultaneous quantification of 2, 4, 6 Trinitrotoluene (TNT) and its metabolites 4-ADNT, 2-ADNT, 2,4-DNT, and 2,6-DNT in urine samples. These four metabolites were acid hydrolyzed using 1 mL of urine followed by extraction using n-Hexane and ethyl acetate as an extracting solvent.

Finding an optimal solution for emerging cyber physical systems (CPS) for better efficiency and robustness is one of the major issues. Meta-heuristic is emerging as a promising field of study for solving various optimization problems applicable to different CPS systems. In this paper, we propose a new meta-heuristic algorithm based on Multiverse Theory, named MVA, that can solve NP-hard optimization problems such as non-linear and multi-level programming problems as well as applied optimization problems for CPS systems.

People around the world are currently affected by Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Despite its many aspects, symptoms, manifestations and impacts, efforts have been made to identify the root causes of the disorder. In particular, genetic studies have concentrated on identifying candidate genes for MDD and exploring associations between these genes and some specific group of individuals.

Objective: To determine level of trace metals in patients with depression in order to explore any association between the two.

Methods: The case-control study was conducted at the Department of Chemical Pathology and Endocrinology, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and Armed Forces Institute of Mental Health, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, from January to December 2017, and comprised diagnosed cases of depression with equal number of age- and gender-matched controls. Depression was diagnosed by a consultant psychiatrist as per the International Classification of Diseases version 10 / Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders -IV criteria and a self-reported depression screening through Siddiqui-Shah Depression Scale.

The detection of seizure activity in electroencephalogram (EEG) segments is very important for the classification and localization of epileptic seizures. The evolution of a seizure in an EEG usually appears as a train of non-uniformly spaced spikes and/or as piecewise linear frequency modulated signals. If a seizure is present, then the energy of the EEG is concentrated along the time axis and the frequency axis in the time-frequency plane.

We report a case of a 58 year old gentleman with prior history of catheter ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). His baseline ECG showed sinus rhythm with a broad and notched P-wave in lead II and biphasic P-wave (positive/negative) in leads III and aVF previously described as advanced interatrial block. A redo ablation procedure was performed due to AF recurrence.

Background: Advanced interatrial block (aIAB) on the surface electrocardiogram (ECG), defined as a P-wave duration ≥120 milliseconds with biphasic (±) morphology in inferior leads, is frequently associated with atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of this study was to determine whether preoperative aIAB could predict new-onset AF in patients with severe congestive heart failure (CHF) requiring cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).

Methods: Retrospective analysis of consecutive patients with CHF and no prior history of AF undergoing CRT for standard indications.
