Article Synopsis
  • * Irisin is a new anti-inflammatory protein linked to various inflammatory conditions, but its specific role in oral inflammation is not yet well understood, calling for further investigation.
  • * The review emphasizes the need for more research on salivary irisin to fully assess its potential as a diagnostic and therapeutic biomarker for both systemic and oral inflammatory diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers compared oral health, measured by the DMFT index, and perceived stress levels between systemically healthy patients and those with undiagnosed or known hypertension in a dental setting.
  • * Findings revealed significant associations among the groups concerning age, oral health, and stress levels, suggesting that patients with high blood pressure experience more stress and poorer oral health outcomes.

The role and opportunities presented by particulate technologies (due to novel processing methods and advanced materials) have multiplied over the last few decades, leading to promising and ideal properties for drug delivery. For example, the dissolution and bioavailability of poorly soluble drug substances and achieving site- specific drug delivery with a desired release profile are crucial aspects of forming (to some extent) state-of-the-art platforms. Atomisation techniques are intended to achieve efficient control over particle size, improved processing time, improved drug loading efficiency, and the opportunity to encapsulate a broad range of viable yet sensitive therapeutic moieties.

Dentists face difficult situations and challenges every day, but undergraduate dental students in Pakistan are not formally taught leadership skills or assessed for these skills. This study aims to explore the perception of undergraduate dental students on various leadership competencies. A multi-institutional cross-sectional observational study was conducted on undergraduate students in five institutions by using universal sampling technique.

Aim: This study aimed to fabricate dexamethasone sodium phosphate loaded microneedle arrays (MNA) and investigate their efficiency in combination with iontophoresis for the treatment of hind paw oedema in rats.

Methods: Drug loaded polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and D-sorbitol-based MNA11 were fabricated by vacuum micromolding. Physicochemical, morphological, thermal, in-silico, in-vitro insertion ability (on parafilm) and drug release studies were performed.

This study aimed to prepare tamsulosin hydrochloride (HCl)-loaded in situ gelling formulation by using hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), gellan gum, poloxamer 188, and benzalkonium chloride. Physicochemical evaluation of formulations included determination of pH, viscosity, gelation time, gel strength, drug content, and sterility. In silico study was performed to analyze interactions between polymers, drug, and mucin glycoprotein.

Despite several novel and innovative approaches, clinical translation of oral insulin delivery into commercially viable treatment is still challenging due to its poor absorption and rapid degradation in GIT. Thus, an insulin-SDS hydrophobic ion pair loaded self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) was formulated to exploit the hypoglycemic effects of orally delivered insulin. Insulin was initially hydrophobically ion paired with sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) to enhance its lipophilicity.

Aim: This study was aimed to develop rabies vaccine incorporated microneedle (MN) patches and evaluate the immunogenicity of prepared formulations in combination with iontophoresis.

Methods: Patches comprising of polyvinyl pyrrolidone, hyaluronic acid and polyethylene glycol 400 were engineered by vacuum micromolding technique. Physical evaluation of patches included determination of folding endurance, % swelling and morphological features.

This study aimed to fabricate clarithromycin laden Eudragit S-100-based microfibers (MF), microfibers coated film (MB), clarithromycin loaded polyvinyl pyrollidone, hyaluronic acid and sorbitol-based dissolving microneedle patches (CP) and microfibers coated microneedle patches (MP). Morphological and phase analysis of formulations were carried out by scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, respectively. Substrate liquefaction test, in vitro drug release, antimicrobial assay and in vivo antibiofilm studies were performed.

The aim of this study was to fabricate celecoxib-loaded chitosan/guar gum (CS/GG) single (SC) and dual (DC) crosslinked hydrogel beads using the ionotropic gelation approach. The prepared formulations were evaluated for entrapment efficiency (EE%), loading efficiency (LE%), particle size and swelling studies. The performance efficiency was assessed by in vitro drug release, ex-vivo mucoadhesion, permeability, ex-in vivo swelling and in vivo anti-inflammatory studies.

Xerostomia is a subjective condition of dryness of the oral cavity that may lead to several oral problems deteriorating oral health-related quality of life. This study aimed to (1) determine the prevalence of xerostomia, (2) compare the general health status, unstimulated salivary flow rate, and oral health-related quality of life in xerostomics and non-xerostomics, and (3) investigate the potential of salivary aquaporin-3 (AQP-3) as a screening biomarker for xerostomia in patients with periodontal disease. Demographics and systemic health data were collected from 109 healthy participants, 20 to 55 years old, with Community Periodontal Index (CPI) score ≥ 3.

Objective: More than a year ago, Pakistan like the rest of the word, was hit by a global pandemic, due to which students of higher education had to accept the new era and adapt to the electronic learning environment for the very first time. This study aims to analyze the perceptions of medical, dental, and allied health students about e-learning in Pakistan.

Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted throughout the country.

Objective: Xerostomia may result in several oral conditions, which ultimately affect oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL). This study aims to evaluate the relationship of stress, xerostomia, salivary flow rate, and OHRQOL among young adults.

Method: We invited 72 participants to complete three validated questionnaires including the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), a shortened version of the Xerostomia Inventory (SXI), and the shortened Oral Health Impact Profile (S-OHIP).
