Despite the regulatory role of Tau protein in the stabilization and assembly of microtubules, this protein has an important function in the protection and stabilizing of DNA molecules in the cell nucleus. In the present study, it has been indicated that glycation of lysine residues (Lys-267, Lys-274, and Lys-280) in the microtubule-binding domain (MBD) can considerably decrease its binding affinity to DNA molecules. The structural analysis also confirmed that the decreased glycated tau-DNA complex's stability was due to structural modification of this protein after the glycation process.

Human B-lymphocytes express 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and 5-LOX activating protein (FLAP) and can convert arachidonic acid to leukotriene B. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) cells contain similar amounts of 5-LOX as human neutrophils but the function and mechanism of activation of 5-LOX in MCL cells, and in normal B-lymphocytes, are unclear. Here we show that the intrinsic 5-LOX pathway in the MCL cell line JeKo-1 has an essential role in migration and adherence of the cells, which are important pathophysiological characteristics of B-cell lymphoma.
