Efficacy of mirtazapine for the treatment of fibromyalgia without concomitant depression: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase IIa study in Japan.

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of mirtazapine in Japanese patients with fibromyalgia (FM), a parallel-group, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase IIa study was conducted at 57 sites between November 2012 and February 2014. Patients aged 20 to 64 years who met the American College of Rheumatology 1990 diagnostic FM criteria and had stably high pain scores during a placebo run-in period were randomly assigned (1:1) by a computer-generated allocation sequence (block size 4) to receive mirtazapine orally (15 mg/d for 1 week and then 30 mg/d) or matching placebo for 12 weeks. The primary endpoint was change in mean numerical rating scale (NRS) pain score from baseline to endpoint (week 12 or early discontinuation).

A 30-year-old female was referred to our hospital for further examination of liver dysfunction. A huge, soft mass was noted in her left upper quadrant on physical examination. Abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed a huge cystic tumor of 20 cm in the hilus of the spleen.

Gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp. Report of four cases and relation to gastritis cystica profunda.

Gastric inverted hyperplastic polyp (IHP) is a rare type of gastric polyp, and is characterized by downward growth of the hyperplastic mucosal components into the submucosa. To the best ofour knowledge, 16 gastric IHP cases have been described in the English literature, but the pathogenesis has not been established. We report the clinical and pathological findings of four gastric IHP cases.

[Successful treatment of advanced recurent breast cancer using DMpC therapy as maintenance therapy].

A 65-year-old female who underwent radical mastectomy on 28 April 1988 felt swelling and numbness of her left lower jaw. As a result of bone biopsy and scintigraphy, multiple bone metastasis was diagnosed. After 6 cycles of CMF therapy, the swelling and numbness of the left lower jaw were reduced, but atelectasis of the left lung upper lobe appeared.
