Retrospective analysis of prognostic factors for angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma: a multicenter cooperative study in Japan.

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a major type of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL). To elucidate the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of AITL in Japan, we retrospectively analyzed 207 patients with AITL. The median patient age was 67 years (range, 34-91 years), with 73% of patients older than 60 years.

Clinicopathological and prognostic characteristics of CD33-positive multiple myeloma.

There have been few reports about the CD33 expression on multiple myeloma (MM) cells so far, showing that only a few patients expressed CD33 homogenously on their MM cells. However, in these reports, neither detailed clinical information nor its prognostic significance was described. Therefore, we analyzed the CD33 expression on MM cells from 63 newly diagnosed patients by flow cytometry and the correlation with other clinical parameters to determine the clinicopathological significance of this molecule.

A case of primary plasma cell leukemia with hairy-cell morphology and lambda-type Bence-Jones protein is reported. Most of the atypical cells in the peripheral blood of this case were small lymphoid cells or lymphoplasmacytoid lymphocytes with numerous cytoplasmic hairy projections. Plasmablastic cells and 'tadpole'-like cells were also present in the bone marrow.

Severe neutropenia with gelatinous bone marrow transformation in anorexia nervosa: a case report.

A 28-year-old woman with a history of anorexia nervosa was admitted with excessive weight loss, edema, and amenorrhea. She had lost 34% of her previous body weight within 2 years, and her body mass index was 12.3 kg/m(2).

Clinicopathological and prognostic characteristics of CD56-negative multiple myeloma.

We analysed CD56 expression in 70 patients with multiple myeloma (MM) to determine its clinicopathological and prognostic significance. Fifty-five (79%) patients were CD56+. CD56- patients (n = 15) had higher beta2 microglobulin levels and a higher incidence of extramedullary disease, Bence Jones protein, renal insufficiency and thrombocytopenia than CD56+ patients.
