First case report of multivisceral transplant from a deceased cardiac death donor.

The current shortage of pediatric multivisceral donors accounts for the long time and mortality on the waiting list of pediatric patients. The use of donors after cardiac death, especially after the outbreak of normothermic regional perfusion, has increased in recent years for all solid organs except the intestine, mainly because of its higher susceptibility to ischemia-reperfusion injury. Effect of strategic deworming on Ascaris suum exposure and technical performance parameters in fattening pigs.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a strategic deworming program on Ascaris suum infection levels and technical performance parameters in fattening pigs. Eighteen fattening stables were selected and divided into two groups. Group 1 consisted of 9 stables in which the fattening pigs tested seropositive for Ascaris, indicative for the presence of Ascaris eggs in the stable, whereas group 2 consisted of 9 stables in which the fattening pigs tested seronegative for Ascaris, indicating of a low or absent environmental contamination with Ascaris eggs.

Gibberellins Regulate Ovule Integument Development by Interfering with the Transcription Factor ATS.

Gibberellins (GAs) are plant hormones that regulate most plant life cycle aspects, including flowering and fruit development. Here, we demonstrate the implication of GAs in ovule development. DELLA proteins, negative GA response regulators, act as positive factors for ovule integument development in a mechanism that involves transcription factor ABERRANT TESTA SHAPE (ATS).

Stromal factors involved in human prostate cancer development, progression and castration resistance.

Purpose: To detect new predictive markers from the prostate cancer tissue, to study the expression by cultured cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) of stromal factors implicated in prostate carcinogenesis, and to compare their expressions in localized, metastatic, castration-sensitive (CSCP), castration-resistant prostate tumors (CRCP) as well as in fibroblasts from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Materials And Methods: The genomic expression of 20 stroma-derived factors, including the androgen receptor (AR), growth factors (FGF2, FGF7, FGF10, HGF, TGFβ, PDGFB), protein implicated in invasion (MMP-2, MMP-9 and MMP-11), inflammation (IL-6, IL-17, STAT-3 and NFκB), stroma/epithelium interaction (CDH11, FAP, CXCL12 and CXCL14) and chaperones (HPA1A and HSF1), was evaluated in cultured fibroblasts both from BHP and prostate carcinomas (PCa). After isolation and culture of fibroblasts by biopsy specimens, RNA was isolated and genomic studies performed.

Molecular classification of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (pTa low-grade, pT1 low-grade, and pT1 high-grade subgroups) using methylation of tumor-suppressor genes.

The role of epigenetics in distinguishing pathological and clinical subgroups in bladder cancer is not fully characterized. We evaluated whether methylation of tumor-suppressor genes (TSGs) would classify non-muscle-invasive (NMI) bladder cancer subgroups and predict outcome. A retrospective design included the following paraffin-embedded primary NMI tumor types (n = 251): pTa low grade (LG) (n = 79), pT1LG (n = 81), and pT1 high grade (HG) (n = 91).

Immune responses of a chimaeric protein vaccine containing Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae antigens and LTB against experimental M. hyopneumoniae infection in pigs.

A recombinant chimaeric protein containing three Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae antigens (C-terminal portion of P97, heat shock protein P42, and NrdF) fused to an adjuvant, the B subunit of heat-labile enterotoxin of Escherichia coli (LTB), was used to immunize pigs against enzootic pneumonia. The systemic and local immune responses, as well as the efficacy of the chimaeric protein in inducing protection against experimental M. hyopneumoniae infection were evaluated.

Methylation of a novel panel of tumor suppressor genes in urine moves forward noninvasive diagnosis and prognosis of bladder cancer: a 2-center prospective study.

Purpose: Changes in DNA methylation of tumor suppressor genes early in carcinogenesis represent potential indicators of cancer detection and disease evolution. We examined the diagnostic, stratification and prognostic biomarker roles in urine of the methylation of a novel panel of tumor suppressor genes in bladder cancer.

Material And Methods: We evaluated the methylation of 18 tumor suppressor genes in 2 prospective, independent sets of urine samples (training set of 120 preparations and validation set of 128) from patients with bladder cancer (170) and controls (78) using methylation specific multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification.

[Haemostasis control during laparoscopic partial nephrectomy without parenchymal renorrhaphy: the VIVOSTAT(®) experience].

Objective: To present our experience using an autologous fibrin sealant prepared with the Vivostat system(®) to control haemostasis without any renal parenchymal reconstruction.

Material And Methods: We performed 45 laparoscopic partial nephrectomies using this haemostatic agent. The surgical steps were: colon mobilization, identification of ureter, renal vessels and renal tumor, renal artery control with Rummel tourniquet, tumor excision with harmonic scalpel, application of fibrin glue to the resection bed twice (before and after kidney reperfusion).

A longitudinal study of the diversity and dynamics of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infections in pig herds.

A longitudinal study was carried out to investigate the diversity and persistence of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyopneumoniae) strains in four infected pig herds. In each herd, 20 pigs were randomly selected and blood and/or bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid was collected at 6, 10, 14 and 26 weeks of age.
