The precise hemodynamic effects of latissimus dorsi cardiomyoplasty have not been well characterized. We prospectively studied 11 mongrel dogs using a rapid ventricular pacing model of congestive heart failure. Six dogs received a nonstimulated left latissimus dorsi cardiomyoplasty wrap, and 5 control dogs were paced only.

These studies have resulted in isolation of a cAMP-dependent protein kinase product from rabbit gastric microsomes which is capable of stimulating the proton pump of the parietal cell, H(+)-K(+)-ATPase, in inhibited gastric microsomes. This protein is membrane-bound and may be extracted from gastric microsomes only in the phosphorylated state.

The concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 24,25-dihydroxyvitamin D were not altered, but the concentration of 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D was significantly higher in the serum of the children after three weeks of hyperthyroxinemia. This was associated with an increase in urinary calcium excretion.

In a series of 14 patients with radial nerve palsy caused by an open humeral shaft fracture, 9 (64%) of the 14 patients had a radial nerve that was either lacerated or interposed between the fracture fragments. There was an equal incidence of radial nerve lacerations or entrapments in types I, II, and III open humeral shaft fractures.

The present study was conducted to evaluate how effective the maternal-fetal transfer is and whether the maternal T4 can prevent intrauterine hypothyroidism. The clinical, laboratory and radiological data on 271 full-term infants with persistent primary congenital hypothyroidism, detected by the national screening program, were used to assess the degree of in utero hypothyroidism.

Body image disturbance was studied in 6 achondroplastic children before and after surgical leg elongation (Wagner's procedure) using Fisher's Draw-a-Person Test and the Body Cathexis Test, as well as on another group of 6 achondroplastic children who had undergone the same procedure several years earlier. These groups were compared with 12 healthy control children. Gross disturbance of body image was present before the operation with a substantial improvement after the procedure.

However, there is evidence that some of those infants might have a persistent alteration in the T4 feedback control of TSH release. To characterize further this phenomenon, 25 treated CH children were divided into two groups: group A consisted of children whose TSH was suppressed as early as 1 month after the onset of therapy, and group B consisted of children whose TSH suppression occurred much later.

Mean values of testicular descent were determined for age as well as for Tanner pubertal stage, establishing normative values. We later used these normative values for testicular descent to evaluate subjects who had undergone treatment for cryptorchidism many years previously.

The addition of interposed abdominal compression to otherwise standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) increases coronary perfusion pressure in animal and human models.
Methods And Results: Accordingly, we conducted a randomized prospective study of 143 consecutive patients experiencing cardiac arrest in a large university-affiliated teaching hospital in whom the initial arrest rhythm was asystole or electromechanical dissociation.

The Israeli national neonatal screening program for congenital hypothyroidism (CH) was initiated in May 1978. The overall incidence of persistent primary congenital hypothyroidism (PPCH) during the first 10 years of screening was 1:2,950 live births. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the incidence of congenital extrathyroid anomalies (ETAs) among the infants with PPCH and to compare it with the Israeli Birth Defect Monitoring System data.

The purpose of this study was to isolate a stimulation-dependent gastric phosphoprotein capable of stimulating acid secretion. Gastric glands were prepared from rabbit gastric mucosa and acid secretion was stimulated with cAMP.

We describe three cases of complete heart block complicating left-sided cardiac catheterization of patients with cardiac allografts. Review of the cases performed at our institution suggests that complete heart block during left-sided catheterization may be more common in patients with cardiac allografts.

Endoscopic laser therapy (ELT) is a recently developed alternative for treatment of colorectal neoplasms and is applicable in a variety of clinical circumstances in which nonoperative treatment is preferable. The experience with ELT using the Nd:YAG (neodynium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet) laser in 42 patients was analyzed.

We describe a patient with male pseudohermaphrodism who has normal basal serum concentrations of cortisol and high basal levels of progesterone and 17 hydroxyprogesterone. Serum concentrations of androstendione, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate and testosterone were low. On adequate human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) stimulation, no rise in serum androstendione, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate or testosterone concentrations was observed.

Eighty two patients received either intra amniotic thyroxine (n = 36), or intra muscular Dexamethasone (n = 46). The Fluorescence Polarization (FP) of amniotic fluid measured prior to and one week following treatment were similar in the two groups.

It was previously shown that some congenital malformations present seasonal variations, suggesting a seasonal etiology such as viral infections. Some earlier studies have shown a certain degree of variation in the incidence rates of congenital hypothyroidism. As from April 1978 all infants born in Israel were screened for congenital hypothyroidism (CH) in one central laboratory at the Sheba Medical Center Tel-Hashomer.

From 1968 to 1984, 134 patients underwent CDD. Eight patients (6%) died in the immediate postoperative period, 55 left the hospital, 8 of them were lost to follow-up, and 47 were followed but died before 5 years elapsed after CDD.

Of late, many investigators have been led by these findings to use GH and growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) for induction of ovulation, in combination with human menopausal gonadotrophins. It is, however, still doubtful whether or not growth hormones and/or insulin-like growth factors are mandatory for follicular development and fertility.

This reconstruction between the radius, lunate, capitate, and scaphoid employs a dorsal and palmar approach weaving a long strip of the extensor carpi radialis brevis through the four bones reducing and stabilizing the scaphoid and lunate with a wire loop. Thirty-six consecutive cases of operated chronic complete scapholunate separation were evaluated in a 2- to 10-year follow-up.
