Preservation of the lung after 4-year compression by fibrous tumors of pleura.

Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura is a neoplasm arising from mesenchymal tissue, which may cause dyspnea and cough. Computed tomography in a 72-year-old woman, who had been diagnosed with a 3-cm mass in the left upper lung 24 years previously, identified 15- and 10-cm tumors, with complete collapse of the lingula and lower lobe. The tumors were successfully excised with partial lung resection, and the collapsed lung was preserved.

Transcervical excision of thymoma and video-assisted thoracoscopic extended thymectomy (VATET) for ectopic cervical thymoma with myasthenia gravis: report of a case.

Myasthenia gravis is the most common disease associated with thymoma, but it is rarely accompanied by ectopic thymoma. We describe a 47-year-old woman who presented with an ectopic cervical thymoma with myasthenia gravis. She was admitted to our neurology department with ptosis, diplopia, and mandibular muscle fatigue, and was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis.

Successful excision of a giant mediastinal vagal schwannoma causing severe tracheal stenosis through a median sternotomy.

Vagal nerve schwannomas that compress the trachea are extremely rare. We report a case in which a giant middle mediastinal schwannoma accompanied by severe tracheal stenosis was excised. A 70-year-old woman had a 30-year history of hoarseness and paralysis of the left recurrent laryngeal nerve.

[A case of advanced rectal cancer with multiple liver metastases successfully treated by perioperative administration of UFT and oral leucovorin].

The patient was a sixty-five-year-old man who had an advanced rectal cancer (Ra, type 2) with liver metastases. Low anterior resection with lymphnode dissection (D3) was done, but hepatectomy was not performed because of the multiple metastases besides the five tumors detected preoperatively. The pathological finding was moderately-differentiated adenocarcinoma.
